TC-net BridgeUpgrade Legacy Control SystemsTC-net Bridge provides a convenient way to upgradeolder GE control systems as well as other suppliers’systems to TMEIC’s latest control solutions (TMACS ® ).The Bridge is a standard platform for bridging avariety of legacy and industry standard protocolsto TMEIC’s TC-net control network. This VME-basedhardware provides high-performance bridging toToshiba’s TC-net real-time control network, whichwith the nv Controller is the heart of the TMACScontrol system. The legacy and other system networks supportedinclude Genius, DLAN, ISBUS, CBUS, ReflectiveMemory (RFM), EGD, and CSF. Profibus and Modbus, plus others listed on the next page can also beaccomodated. The Bridge allows the modernizationof older systems with Toshiba’s new high-performancenv Controller and the 100/1000 Mbps TC-netcontrol network.Phased Control System UpgradesUsing the Bridge, older systems can be upgradedincrementally without a long, expensive outage. Anexample of a system upgrade to new controllers withexisting drives:• The new nv Controller and the Bridge are installedand connected to the new control network, alongwith new HMIs if required.• The controller is programmed for all the drives andlogic using the existing configuration as a basis, and the Bridge is programmed to communicate withthose drives through the interface cards (“listenonly” and “shadowing” mode).• At the next outage, a group of drives is selected andthe drive LAN is disconnected from the old controllerand activated at the bridge, putting the drives undercontrol of the new TMACS system.• At the next suitable outage another group of drivescan be moved over. The whole upgrade can take as long as required andincremental costs can be kept low – preferably withinthe maintenance budget. Eventually the entire systemwill be replaced without production losses usingroutinely scheduled shutdowns.nv ControllersS6PIO VMEMaster/SlaveD37D37TMACS SystemL2 PC HMI HMI ServerTC-net 100 CardTC-net BridgeVME-based rack with range ofcommunication interface cardsISC VMEMaster/SlaveISBISBISC VMEMaster/SlaveDriveDriveDLNDLNC-Bus UpstreamPassive MonitoringS6 CPUC-Bus DownstreamPassive or ActiveVME BusDriveDriveTC-net 100High-speedNetworkControl System FwyVMEMasterSlaveDropDLAN 1IS-Bus Loop 1IS-Bus Loop 2Genius I/O LANDLAN 2DriveDriveSystem NetworkControl NetworkVMESlaveOther vendorsIba linkProfibusRM2Getc.Selection of legacy systemsDropDropDropDropDropA range ofother legacycontrol systemsDriveDMCS6 IO
