High Efficiency, High AvailabilityLCI FeaturesUnique Bridge DesignEach bridge uses full voltagerated devices in an easy tomaintain configuration.Highest System EfficiencySynch motor and LCIcombination give highestefficiency drive system available.BenefitsMaximized Up-Time –ReliabilityThe standard N+1 SCRredundancy insures full poweroutput even in the event of adevice failure. Most Cost Effective HighHP SystemsHigh efficiency means reducedenergy costs for total project life.Input ConfigurationDrive can be configured for6-, 12- or 24-pulse input.Water Cooled TechnologyFully redundant system, hosesdon’t need to be disconnectedfor bridge service.Windows®-BasedConfiguration andMaintenance ToolsFor pc-based configuration, theControl System Toolbox features:• Animated block diagrams• Integrated trend windowPower System FriendlyFlexibility allows most costefficient installations. LCI canbe used as motor control or formotor starting applications.Compact Quiet DesignReduces maintenance andambient noise, saves yourvaluable floor space, allowsfor transformer to be remotelymounted (outdoors).Faster Commissioningand MaintenanceThese world-class toolsdrive productivity incommissioning and typicalmaintenance activities. The LCI drive is ideal for any high powersynchronous motor application for which adjustablespeed operation or soft starting is needed.Adjustable speed operation allows optimal efficiency(energy saving) and improved process accuracy. Typicaladjustable speed applications include:• Compressors for air or petrochemical processes• ID fans for coal-fired boilers• Grinding mills• Rod and bar mills• Marine Propulsion41602300Volts2000 Series LCI4000 Series LCI2500 5000 10000 13000 18000 80000 hpSoft-starting reduces the mechanical stress on the motor and driven equipment as well as eliminating electrical startingsurges on the ac power system. The rating of the starting system depends on the power required to drive the loadat synchronous speed. However, because many driven machines can be arranged for reduced load operation duringstarting, power rating of the starting equipment can be greatly reduced. An output transformer permits the LCI drive tooperate with any motor voltage. The LCI drive has a closed transition for synchronizing/de-synchronizing function thatmeans no other synchronizing equipment is needed to smoothly start multiple large motors.

Bringing Powerful ControlTo A Wide Variety Of IndustriesThe LCI drive’s robust power bridge design and long years of provenoperational reliability make it the ideal solution for your high horsepowercompressor applications. One applications uses LCIs and electric motorsto replace gas turbine drives to eliminate emissions, reduce noise, reducemaintenance and increase operational efficiency and control.Compressor StationThe LCI drive can be seamlessly integrated with the rest of yourpump or compressor station control system. Supporting a varietyof Local Area Networks (LAN) and hardwired I/O allows you theflexibility necessary for remote and even un-manned operations.Pump StationGrinding MillThe LCI has been used to power many types of grinding millapplications. It can be used to start multiple mills or function as adedicated power supply to a mill for optimal process control andvariability.Traditional mechanical methods for controlling airflow areinefficient and require considerable maintenance. The LCIprovides more accurate and energy efficient control of airflowwhile eliminating the maintenance associated with dampers orvanes. Any large fan application, like a cement or utility ID fans, will benefit from using the LCI for controlling its synchronousmotor.Induced Draft (ID) FanIn the configuration, start-up, and maintenance of large drivesystems like ship propulsion, a PC-based programming toolis essential. The LCI utilizes many parts of the TMEIC ControlSystem Toolbox software package. This package is sharedacross a number of drive platforms and results in reducedcustomer training time.Ship Propulsion3

Load Commutated Inverter (LCI) TheoryThe LCI operation is simple and reliable. It usesload-commutated, phase-controlled power thyristortechnology to supply power to the stator windings of ahigh efficiency synchronous motor.3DC LinkInductorSCRConvertersSynchronousMotor6 Pulse / 6 Pulse(Possible Multiple Motors)The power circuit has a source converter, connected tothe power supply and a load converter connected to themotor. When motoring, power flows from the powersource to the motor. Regeneration is built in, allowingsmooth control of loads in all operations. The LCI controls the motor torque to regulate motorspeed. Motor torque is controlled through the DC linkcurrent.IsolationTransformerDC Link InductorSCRConvertersSynchronousMotor12 Pulse / 12 PulseThe LCI power converter blocks can be paralleled todeliver ratings in excess of 70,000 HP. Multi-channeloutput gives low harmonics on the motor and gives theopportunity for single channel operation.
