The forum will be divided into two major sessions. The first will introduce changing attitudesabout the abundance and importance of water in Canada in general, while the second will deal specificallywith shared public policy issues relating to the Great Lakes region.The University of Lethbridge. The University of Lethbridge is one of Canada’s leading water researchinstitutions. In addition to basic research, the university is also a national leader in making water-relatedscientific and public policy issues intelligible to the average Canadian.The Rosenberg International Forum on Water Policy. The Rosenberg International Forum on Water Policywas created in 1996. The main thrust of these Forums is the resolution of conflict emerging from trans-boundarywater issues. The 5th Biennial Rosenberg International Forum on Water Policy, ‘Upland Watershed Managementin an Era of Global Climate Change’ was held in Banff, Canada, September 6—11, 2006.The United Nations Water for Life Decade, Canadian Partnership Initiative. The targets set by theMillennium Declaration of 2000 and the World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002 reflect thewillingness of the international community to address water availability and quality issues at the global level.In recognition of the importance of these issues, the UN General Assembly took an additional step ofproclaiming the year 2003 as the International Year of Fresh Water in which Canada was heavily involved.
