SEANCE DE LECTURES DES AUTEURS FRANCOPHONE ContinuedHédi Bouraoui. Bouraoui is a francophone writer residing in Toronto who is of Tunisian origin. He is anovelist and academic, who regularly deals with themes involving the transcendance of cultural boundaries.Bouraoui was educated in France and in the United States. He is on the faculty at York University, in Torontowhere he teaches both French and English literature, specializing in African, Caribbean, and Franco-Ontarianliteratures. He also launched the Canada/Maghreb Centre at the University. He is a prolific writer with anumber of published volumes of poetry (e.g. Musoktail) essays (Créaculture) and critical works. As Editor ofthe francophone review Dérives, he favors the development of multi-culturalism in Canada. Bouraoui hasreceived a number of literary awards in Canada, France and Tunisia. He was granted an honorary doctoratefrom Laurentian University in Greater Sudbury, Ontario in recognition of his contributions to Canadian andworld literature.Madeleine Monette. Monette was born in Montreal and lives in New York City, where she wrote her first novel,Double Suspect (Robert-Cliche Award). Four others followed: Petites violences, Amandes et melons, la Femmefurieuse, and her latest, which has just been published, les Rouleurs. She has been awarded grants by theCanada Council and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. Monette was short-listed for severalliterary awards, including the Marguerite Yourcenar Award, the Prix France-Québec Philippe-Roussillon and thePrix Ringuet de l'Académie des lettres du Québec. She received the first grant from the Fonds Gabrielle Roy,which allowed her to live and write in Roy's chalet in Charlevoix. Monette is known internationally and has givenlectures and readings in Canada, France, the West Indies, and throughout the U.S. Many studies on her workhave been published, including a collective, Relectures de Madeleine Monette (Summa Publications). She wasrecently elected to the Academy of Quebec Letters.Paul Savoie. Savoie originally from St. Boniface, Manitoba, lives in Toronto and has published about 30books in both French and English and in various literary genres, including poetry, short stories,works of non-fiction and literary translation. Racines d'eau, a selection of his poetry, appeared in Les Éditionsdu Noroît's prestigious Oval Collection. His books include Amour flou, L'empire des rôdeurs, as well as histranslations of the poetry of Louis Riel into English. In addition to his literary output, he has worked inseveral of Canada's arts organizations, including the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Coucil, theCanadian Television Fund, and the Ontario Ministry of Culture. In 2007, he received the prestigious TrilliumAward for his book of poetry, CRAC.
