• Helping put climate strategiesinto action. We have supportedthe Caribbean Community ClimateChange Centre to develop anImplementation Plan for theCaribbean Community’s strategicclimate framework. The Planhas now been endorsed bythe 18 participating Caribbeangovernments. Follow-on initiativesinclude the CDKN-funded project totransition Anguilla’s power sector torenewable energy.• Supporting research that haschanged policy. An early successis work by the Alliance for ClimateChange Resilience in Africa (ACCRA)on how climate hazards, variabilityand change affect vulnerablecommunities in Ethiopia, Ugandaand Mozambique. Thanks to thisCDKN-supported programme,climate adaptation is integrated inlocal development plans – assistingcommunities to become moreresilient to climate shocks.• Bringing climate science closerto policy-makers. In partnershipwith the Inter-governmental Panel onClimate Change (IPCC), Government ofNorway and others, we have convenedaround 1,500 senior decision-makersat events in seven developing regionsto debate the implications of theIPCC’s Special Report on ManagingClimate Extremes and Disasters (SREX).This programme has started to changethe way decision-makers work witheach other and mobilise resources toprepare for climate disasters.• Integrating climate change intosector planning. CDKN and theGlobal Water Partnership supportedthe African Ministers Council onWater to develop a comprehensiveStrategic Framework for integrating
water security and climateresilience into developmentplanning. The Framework putscountries in a strong positionto climate-proof investmentdecisions and CDKN will workwith eight African countries toput it into practice.• Assisting decisionmakersto take the longview, and act on it.CDKN and partners workedwith the Punjab DisasterManagement Authorityin Pakistan to developguidelines for moreclimate-resilient, energyefficient housing andinfrastructure. By helpingPunjab ‘build back better’after the disastrous floods,we expect more lives willbe saved in future disasters.
