Also called the “Demil Guide” for short, this excellent resource was written and produced by and for youth andstudents. The Demil Guide exposes the increasing militarization of youth fromhigh schools to universities. "Militarization" may not be a concept you'refamiliar with, but after reading a few articles in this guide, you'll have abetter understanding of it. While few people would argue that a countrycan survive unprotected, the glorification of the military ignores the factthat the most positive change in the United States has come from peoplestanding up to the government, big corporations, and other forms ofinstitutional violence and crime. The Demil Guide includes articles on military recruiting in highschools, universities of mass destruction, how to struggle against militarism, organizing tools and success stories. This collaborative projectbrought together the efforts of numerous student and youth groups fromacross the US and the project was spearheaded by Forrest Wilder, theFoundation’s 2004 Ruth Floyd Intern.Special ThanksThe Foundation wishes to acknowledge and thankits summer interns for 2004: Forrest Wilder fromthe University of Texas, Ruth Floyd Intern; BayleyLopez from Stanford University, Lena ChangIntern; and Archana Bharathan from the Universityof Michigan, Lena Chang Intern. Please see the “Resources” section on page 29 for ordering information,or download a pdf version from the youth section of the Foundation’swebsite at:http://www.wagingpeace.org/menu/programs/youth-outreach/#demilguide.To order copies in bulk, please contact the Nuclear Age PeaceFoundation at (805) 965-3443 or send an email to youth@napf.org.Nuclear Age Peace Foundation 25
