These sites arevisited by some 2 million visitors annually.Through the <strong>Foundation</strong>’s Waging<strong>Peace</strong>.orgwebsite, we provide important and timelyopportunities for advocacy, including ourTurn the Tide Campaign in which individualscan advocate for a new course in USnuclear policy. Through this campaign,thousands of letters have gone toCongressional representatives.The <strong>Foundation</strong> developed and publishes amonthly on-line newsletter, The Sunflower,on nuclear and other security issues as apublic education tool. Some 10,000 subscribersreceive this proprietary news andaction journal.The <strong>Foundation</strong> also provides advocacyopportunities through its UC <strong>Nuclear</strong> FreeCampaign, and has created a special websitefor this campaign (www.ucnuclearfree.org).We have reached thousands of students onUniversity of California campuses throughthis campaign and encouraged their communicationwith the UC Regents regardingUC’s management and oversight of thenation’s nuclear weapons laboratories. TheCampaign helped to raise the level of debateabout the University’s relationship with thenation’s nuclear weapons labs by coordinatingcampus-wide debates on the future ofthis relationship. <strong>Foundation</strong> PresidentDavid Krieger debated the chair of UCBerkeley’s Department of <strong>Nuclear</strong>Engineering at one such event on theBerkeley campus.Members of the <strong>Foundation</strong>’s staff havebeen invited to speak across the UnitedStates and throughout the world.<strong>Foundation</strong> President David Krieger hasspoken to members of the EuropeanParliament and given keynote addresses tothe International <strong>Peace</strong> ResearchAssociation and the Nagasaki CitizensAssembly to Eliminate <strong>Nuclear</strong> Weapons.Other staff members have traveled in delegationsto Iraq, Libya, Indonesia and otherareas of conflict throughout the world andreported widely on their findings.The <strong>Foundation</strong> has given awards forDistinguished <strong>Peace</strong> Leadership for over 20years to some of the world’s greatest peaceleaders, including His Holiness the XIVthDalai Lama, Archbishop Desmond Tutu,Walter Cronkite, Captain Jacques Cousteau,Jody Williams and King Hussein of Jordan.It has also given awards for WorldCitizenship to individuals who have madeimportant contributions to internationalcooperation.<strong>Foundation</strong> staff have been interviewed onMSNBC and CNN as well as on numerousnationally-syndicated and regional radio programs,including Pacifica Public Radio andDemocracy Now.
