PRINCIPLESThe following principles guide <strong>the</strong> HE Committee:Sound relationships between universities and SABPP are critical for quality learning delivery and<strong>the</strong> promotion <strong>of</strong> HR pr<strong>of</strong>essionalism in South Africa.The highest quality <strong>of</strong> learning provision and research is needed to ensure a sound <strong>higher</strong><strong>education</strong> for HR students.HR academic <strong>education</strong> must be based on sound research and a solid scientific foundation, butwith a clear link to practice in <strong>the</strong> real world <strong>of</strong> work.HR research must be disseminated to <strong>the</strong> HR pr<strong>of</strong>essional community to improve practice.Universities should focus on adequately preparing HR students for <strong>the</strong> workplace.SABPP will set pr<strong>of</strong>essional standards and guidelines for HR <strong>higher</strong> <strong>education</strong> curriculum.A greater sharing <strong>of</strong> information and resources between academics and practitioners willenhance <strong>the</strong> HR academy and pr<strong>of</strong>ession.Student mobility between universities should be promoted where possible.All o<strong>the</strong>r requirements from CHE, DHET or SAQA must also be met.While <strong>the</strong> <strong>committee</strong> agrees on minimum requirements for all universities, individualinstitutions may exceed <strong>the</strong>se requirements to gain competitive advantage.FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE COMMITTEEThe remit <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>committee</strong> is to address <strong>the</strong> following academic matters affecting HR pr<strong>of</strong>essionalism:HR curriculum developmentAccreditationWork‐integrated learning and meeting <strong>the</strong> needs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> HR pr<strong>of</strong>essional marketAssessment and moderationQuality assuranceHR research and benchmarkingHR thought leadershipHR student empowerment and employmentHR pr<strong>of</strong>essionalism <strong>of</strong> academics and studentsStakeholder engagement and alliancesAlumni career trackingRecognition <strong>of</strong> prior learningSABPP Higher Education CommitteeHewlett‐Packard Company 2
