However,the <strong>881</strong> <strong>Compact</strong> <strong>IC</strong> <strong>pro</strong> and <strong>882</strong> <strong>Compact</strong> <strong>IC</strong> <strong>plus</strong>were developed not just for these fields. Because of theirhigh level of reliability they are being used more andmore in the pharmaceutical industry.Moreover, the flexibility of the <strong>Compact</strong> <strong>IC</strong> instrumentsmeans they are widely deployed in the chemical and thefood industry. Small and medium-sized analytical laboratoriesbenefit from these instruments’ excellent priceperformanceratio. The 858 Professional SamplePro cessor, the 919 <strong>IC</strong> Autosampler <strong>plus</strong>, the 863 <strong>Compact</strong><strong>IC</strong> Autosampler (shown here), the 889 <strong>IC</strong> Sample Center,the 814 USB Sample Processor or the 815 Robotic USBSample Processor XL can be used as sample changers.05MISP – Metrohm Inline Sample Preparation – coupledwith the <strong>Compact</strong> <strong>IC</strong>s <strong>pro</strong>vide a unique sample preparationcapability. 1 HousingOne of the characteristic features of the <strong>881</strong> and <strong>882</strong> ion chromatographs is theircompact, space-saving design. Nonetheless, all components are clearly arranged andeasy to access. The complete flow path is metal-free and preinstalled. The transparentdoor allows for visual monitoring even during analysis.072 Eluent FlowThe iPump is a central element of the <strong>Compact</strong> <strong>IC</strong> series. Its extremely low pulsationtranslates into low noise and maximum sensitivity of the system. In addition, all <strong>Compact</strong><strong>IC</strong> instruments are equipped with purge valve, inline filter and pulsation absorber.Should your application require a gradient, Dosino gradient technology enables implementationof binary, ternary, quaternary and quinary gradients.3 SeparationiColumn, the analytical separation column, is the heart of every application. iColumntechnology allows monitoring of this critical component. The system knows the optimalchromatographic conditions and prevents damage that can result from operatorerror. Complete traceability is guaranteed. Depending on the application, users canselect columns with different basic materials, selectivities, capacities and dimensions.Apart from columns with an internal diameter of 4 mm, it is also possible to use 2 mmcolumns to reduce eluent consumption.4 TemperatureApplications can be optimized by varying the temperature of the separation column.The <strong>881</strong> <strong>Compact</strong> <strong>IC</strong> <strong>pro</strong> is equipped with a column heater that can heat the eluentand column up to 70 °C. The thermally insulated column compartment of the <strong>882</strong><strong>Compact</strong> <strong>IC</strong> <strong>plus</strong> <strong>pro</strong>vides reliable <strong>pro</strong>tection from external influences.5 SuppressionSequential or chemical suppression – thanks to the low background noise level, bothfacilitate very sensitive analyses. At < 0.2 nS/cm, both have the lowest noise level ofall commercially available suppressors. This guarantees limits of detection in the 1 ppbrange. The Metrohm suppressors are extremely robust, solvent- and pressure-resistant.That is why the chemical suppressors come with an unrivalled 10-year warranty.6 DetectionConductivity is the most frequently used method of detection in <strong>IC</strong>. Apart from that,UV/VIS, amperometric and mass-spectrometric detection methods are used. The in ­telligent conductivity detector iDetector transmits the analytical signal to the Mag<strong>IC</strong>Net TM software directly and without any interference thanks to Digital Signal Pro cessing(DSP). The large measuring range of the iDetector of 0...15’000 μS/cm ensurescorrect and precise results from the trace to the percent range within one analysis.
