The condenserhas cooled liquid moving through it, whichallows the solvent to condense in thereceiving flask. The vacuum pump lowersthe boiling point of the solvent, allowingfor faster evaporation. Bumping of thesample may cause loss of the sample andcan be controlled via vapor pressure ortemperature of the water bath. Uses ice to coolthe solvent more rapidly than the diagonalor vertical condensers.Centrifugal EvaporatorsProvide efficient evaporation of solventsfrom many samples. Can handle solventswith boiling points up to 220°C; boilingpoint is lowered by use of a vacuum pumpand the centrifugal force creates a pressuregradient to allow the samples to boil atthe top, eliminating the opportunity forbumping and loss of the sample.Sample ConcentratorsProvide a steady flow of nitrogen orother gas directly into the sample vials,test tubes, or microplates. Concentratedairflow allows for more rapid evaporationof solvent. Heated concentrators allow formore rapid concentration of samples.Vacuum PumpsReduce the vapor pressure within anevaporation system, allowing the sampleto boil at a lower temperature. A pressurereducingvalve (bleeder valve) is required tomonitor pressure and reduce the likelihoodof bumping.
