We areworking hard to ensure patients and visitors to our hospitals are given advice about quitting and arepleased to have exceeded the target this quarter. This is important to us as <strong>Taranaki</strong> DHB groundsand buildings are now fully Smokefree/Auahi Kore.Better Help for Smokers to Quit (Primary Care Target): Target 90%, Achieved 63%National performance for the primary care target was 51 percent, an 8.4 percent improvement onquarter two with <strong>Taranaki</strong> achieving 63%, a 5% increase from last quarter.6) More Heart and Diabetes Checks: Target 75%, Achieved 70 %<strong>Taranaki</strong> DHB will continue to work with the PHOs in developing their Diabetes Care ImprovementPackages and Long Term Conditions programmes to meet this new target. We are pleased to see anincrease of 3% this quarter, making <strong>Taranaki</strong> DHB one of the top three performers in this target andone of seven DHB within 10 percent of the target.Diabetes and cardiovascular disease continue to be among the main causes of ill health in <strong>Taranaki</strong>.57
