1. INTRODUCTIONOakite EuroStrip 7048/7049 is a paint stripping system to remove powderpaints from steel surfaces. This system is NOT compatible with zinc and aluminum painted parts.2. COMPONENTSOakite EuroStrip 7048Oakite EuroStrip 70493. PROCESSThe paint stripper is applied by agitated immersion as a 1:1 mixture of OakiteEuroStrip 7048 and Oakite EuroStrip 7049. EuroStrip 7049 is used as areplenisher for the alkalinity in the aqueous layer. Water is used to replenishvolume in the aqueous layer. It is recommended the system be filtered to remove paint particles and othercontaminants.3.1 APPLICATION OF THE PAINT STRIPPERThe EuroStrip System Paint Stripping Process is not recommended forprocesses other than paint stripping. Test results indicate than when theEuroStrip System is used for purposes other than paint stripping, anticipatedperformance and/or bath life can be significantly affected. If parts to be strippedcontain appreciable amounts of dirt or soils, they should be cleaned and rinsedwell prior to introduction to the EuroStrip System.3.1.1 BATH MAKE-UPPer 1000 liters of bath volume500 liters of Oakite EuroStrip 7048500 liters of Oakite EuroStrip 7049Per 100 gallons of bath volume50 gallons of Oakite EuroStrip 704850 gallons of Oakite EuroStrip 7049(1) Add Oakite EuroStrip 7048 to the tank, start agitation, add OakiteEuroStrip 7049.Continual stirring is needed in order for the product to workproperly.(2) When the fresh bath is made, the procedure for replenishment ofOakite EuroStrip 7049 (Section 3.1.4.1) should be performed andrecorded.3.1.2 BATH OPERATIONImmersion Time 5 - 60 minutes. Time may be longerdepending on the film thickness andpaint used.

Bath Temperature - 27 - 71° C (80º - 160º F).Bath Concentration - 50% Oakite EuroStrip 7048, 50% OakiteEuroStrip 7049NOTE: Bath must be continually stirred to ensure the thoroughmixing of the two phases. The optimum working parameters may be established in preliminary tests,in cooperation with the Technical Service group.3.1.3 BATH CONTROLIn order to achieve the minimal stripping time, the two phases must bekept in the correct proportion. This is monitored by following Section3.1.4.1.3.1.4 BATH REPLENISHMENT3.1.4.1 REPLENISHMENT OF OAKITE EUROSTRIP 7048/7049:(1) Alkalinity Titration or Titration Points: To be performed at everyshift.1. Filter enough of a well-mixed stripper bath to fill a 10-mlgraduated cylinder to the 10-ml mark.2. Pour the 10-ml into a 250-ml Erlenmeyer flask and addapproximately 150 to 200 ml of water.3. Add 20 drops of Bromophenol blue indicator. The solution willturn blue.4. Fill a buret to the 0-ml mark with 1N HCl. Add acid until thecolor turns yellow, (Please note, the color will turn green andthen soon after yellow). Record this number as total alkalinity. One ml of 1N HCl equals one titration point. A fresh or initialstrip bath should be at least 10 - 12 titration points. If thetitration points drop below 10 points, adjust by adding EuroStrip7049 until the titration points fall within range.Note: Adding 5% of the bath volume of EuroStrip 7049 willincrease the Alkalinity titration by 1 point.(2) Split Test: To be performed once a week.1. Filter enough of a well-mixed stripper bath to fill a graduatedcylinder to the 100 ml mark.2. Allow the two phases to completely separate.3. Determine the volume (in ml) of the top layer and the volume (inml) of the bottom layer. If the bath is in the right proportions, thetop layer should be 55 ml and the bottom layer should be45 ml.

4. Refer to the replenishment chart for the necessary additions. The split heading of the chart has the top layer as the topnumber and the bottom layer as the bottom number. Additionsof both EuroStrip 7048 and 7049 may be necessary.3.1.4.2 BATH CONTROL FOR EUROSTRIP 7048 AND EUROSTRIP 7049 BASED ONSPLIT TEST:Split Test Results Eurostrip 7048 %bv Needed: Water %bv Needed:70/30 0 1565/35 0 1060/40 0 555/45 0 050/50 0 045/55 10 040/60 15 035/65 20 0PLEASE NOTE: Once Titration and Split Test requirements are met, low tank volumeshould be replenished with a mixture of 7048 and 7049 at 1:1 ratio. Ifafter the titration point requirement is met the split test requirement isunable to be met, please contact the Technical Service Department.4.
