Oakite CrysCoat® 287SCOne-step, low-cost prepaint treatment applied by steam gun;develops iron phosphate conversion coating.PRIMARY APPLICATIONOakite CrysCoat 287SC is a specially formulated, one-step prepaint treatment specifically developed foreconomical steam phosphating of large ferrous and other metal parts such as truck cabs. It'sconveniently applied through one-man operated steam guns. Recommended is the Oakite Hurriclean®Solution-Lifting Steam Gun.In the same application, the liquid iron phosphate material both cleans and conditions ferrous metalsurfaces prior to painting. Its chemical cleaning action--intensified by the impact of the pressure appliedsteam--quickly removes medium to heavy oils, shop soils and light smut. At the same time, the singleapplication develops a conversion coating that does the following: (1) provides corrosion resistance(including the prevention of flash rust) before painting; (2) improves the adhesion of subsequently appliedfinishes.Oakite CrysCoat 287SC develops a similar amorphous phosphate conversion coating on some zinc andaluminum castings. It also can be used to remove soils such as light oxides from aluminum.Chemically stable CrysCoat 287 SC produces little sludge so solutions in holding tanks last longer. Moreover, maintenance is kept to a minimum through easy solution control.CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICSchemical composition ............................................... blend of phosphates, activator agents, solventsand surfactantsphysical form ............................................................ as received: yellow liquidas used: light-yellow solutionodor .......................................................................... sweet, faintspecific gravity (approx.)........................................... 1.076 at 20°C (68°F)bulk density .............................................................. 1076 g/ (9.0 Ib/gal)viscosity ................................................................... 3 to 6 cps, Brookfield Spindle 1, 60 rpm at 20°C(68°F)flash point ................................................................ nonehygroscopic tendency .............................................. not applicablefoaming tendency .................................................... highrecommended diluent .............................................. watermaximum solubility .................................................. completebehavior in hard water ............................................. goodrinsability ................................................................. goodbiodegradable surfactants ...................................... yesphosphate-free ........................................................ nonormal working concentrations ................................ see application procedurenormal working temperatures................................... 100°C (212°F)pH at working concentrations .................................. 4.0 to 5.0 (optimum 4.5)

Minimum 2kg/cm 2 (30 psi) of steam is needed. Its concentration at the nozzle should be between 2% and 5% byvolume of water. pH of solution at the nozzle should be between 4.0 and 5.0 (optimum 4.5). pH normallydoes not have to be adjusted. The solution is applied systematically from the ground up on the units being treated. After all surfaceshave been covered once, they’re given a second application. Next, surfaces are rinsed thoroughly--firstwith steam, then with clear water, then again with steam to assure quick drying.Solution Control: Concentrations are titrated using Procedure 42 or Test Kit Procedure 130NOTES ON USE(See Material Safety Data Sheet)Never add water or solutions to the product. Do not add large amounts of product to solution at any onetime. Do not add to hot water or solution warmer than 43° to 49° C (110° to 120°F)Avoid contact or mixing with chlorine-releasing materials.Black iron holding tanks can be used. However, stainless steel 304 or 316 tanks are preferred. Electricimmersion coils should be stainless steel, 316 preferred, 304 acceptable.Safety and Handling Precautions: Oakite CrysCoat 287SC is a highly acidic material containingphosphoric acid. Direct contact causes burns of eyes and may cause burns of skin. It is harmful ifswallowed or inhaled. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Wear safety goggles, rubber gloves, and other suitable protective clothing when handling. Wash thoroughly after handling. Use with adequateventilation. Avoid breathing mist. Do not take internally.First Aid in Case of Contact: For eyes, immediately flush with large quantities of cool water for at least15 minutes; get medical attention. For skin, immediately wash thoroughly with plenty of water for at least15 minutes. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes and wash before reuse. lf inhaled, remove fromexposure. If swallowed, wash out mouth thoroughly with water. Give several glasses of water or milk todrink. Get prompt medical attention.KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN..
