YEAR 8IGS Cricket elded four Year 8 teams in the GPS compeonthis year.It has been a joy to coach the 8D cricket team for the secondhalf of the 2011 season. This group of lively and talkaveboys were always willing to train especially with the OldBoys, who provided acvies that were not only fun but alsohelped to develop certain basic skills necessary for cricket. The rain interrupted season sll provided opportunies for anumber of boys to shine. Our opening pair of M. Hayes andP. McDowell showed that they could defend their stumpsfrom an many savage bowling aacks. The wicket keepingskills of E. Walsh and B. Laidlaw were called upon numerousmes to stop the ball racing o to the boundary. The muchtalked about last game of the season between the 8C and8D team was unfortunately called o due to rain. Overallthe 8D cricket team was a team of boys very commied toimproving both their bang and bowling skills. My thanksmust go out to the Old Boys, whose presence inspiredthe boys to train and to Mr Moore for the organisaonnecessary to run the season. Mr John CroninThe 8Cs have been a pleasure to coach this year due to theirlevel of commitment and willingness to improve aspectsof their cricket. The boys have worked hard on becomingmore focused at the crease, employing concentraonand teamwork to get some aggression onto the ball andinto their running. In the eld we have a much higherover rate and level of good posivecricket talk than at the beginning of theseason. The result has been that we are abeer team and beer cricketers, andmore importantly, a much beer teamof cricketers. Highlights of the seasonhave been the catching, which has beenamazing at mes with outstanding eortsfrom Harrison Passeri, Nick Piper and NickDe Jong; the elding by all and parcularlyby Braydon Klimmer, the run-out specialist;the bang of Nick Andrews, Jack Burns, Levi Cathcart andJames Ploetz, with Ma Thomas leading from the front; thebowling with cameos at just the right me from LachlanKing, Jacob (keep on walking) Walker and Ryan Wynyard. There were also some great all-round performances and theteam organisaon and cohesion, led by Ma and Nick, wasoutstanding. Of course the coaching was excellent and onlyovershadowed by the fantasc level of support shown byparents. Without them scoring, umpiring, cheering and geng boys to training andgames, we would have struggled. Thanks toall and thanks Mr Moore for a great season.Mr Len ReidlingerThe 8Bs started the season as a group ofplayers not knowing what was happeningand were totally thrashed. How thingschanged as the season progressed. Weworked hard at training and played to ourmatch plans of keeping it simple, preserving our wickets andplaying to the basics. We became focused on being a teamand supporng each other no maer what. We workedat bowling a straighter line and length and started to takewickets. We focused on our elding and took some greatcatches. We started playing a straighter bat and thoughtabout our shots and started making some runs. We enjoyedsome good training sessions and the opportunity to learnand improve skills. Mr Paul CokerThe 8As team played some excellent cricket to nish rst atthe end of the GPS season. With hard work and a dedicatedteam turning up to Thursday morning trainings at 6am,the team was ruthless against the opposion. Throughoutthe season all players contributed to thewinning culture. Notable performancesthis year saw 123 by Kye O’Sullivan againstGregory Terrace, 86 by Ryan Plummeragainst BSHS and four wickets to BrodieNickson against TGS. However, it was theperformances from all the players whomay not receive awards or accolades asstand- outs each week that have made thisgreat season possible. Special thanks mustgo to Mr Moore for his commitment eachThursday morning and to our parents for all their support.Mr Darren HinesYEAR 9IGS Cricket elded three Year 9 teams in the GPS compeonthis year. The 9Cs were a pleasure to coach in 2011.We had a slow and shaky start, but the boysimproved steadily throughout the season. There was some really good cricket playedby these boys and the improvement intheir bowling and elding was a credit tothem. Thanks also goes to Andrew Tazelaar,Ryan Tazelaar, Lachlan Pfeer and BryceCarseldine for making cricket training soentertaining as well as improving the boys skills.Mr Peter CraigThe 9Bs have been very enthusiasc about their cricket thisyear and although they came second on most occasions theyposted scores of more than 100 in almost every match. Mostof the boys have improved their techniques and skills andmost importantly showed sportsmanship and good schoolspirit. They were so generous with their sportsmanshipin fact that they oen gave opposion batsmen the oddfull toss or short delivery to get his innings going, or evena second chance to bat by dropping the odd catch! Thehighlight of the year was denitely the demolion of BSHSwho were also a very ‘sporng team’ and very generouswith their bowling and catching. So commied to the causewas Maclay Kenman that he was prepared to use his face tostop a ball against Downlands. Mr Andrew WalshThe 9As had a very good season winning ve out of sixmatches played. The game that the 9As lost was by onerun. During the season the boys had four training sessionsa week which helped develop the team into a very goodteam. A big thank you to Mr Moore for taking the boys earlymorning on Wednesdays, starng at 6am.Some stats about the team: Highset team score: 5 for 217 vs NC. Highest individual score: Jordan Wendt 69.
