Lakota Community
Club May Meeting
Lakota Community Club met on
Monday, May 22, at 7:00 p.m. at
Miller Time Bar & Grill with nine
members present. Reverend Ron
Wheeler led the members in prayer
of thanks followed by President
Oftedahl calling the meeting to
order. Minutes of the last meeting
were read along with treasurer’s
report.
Old Business:
• Discussed scholarships given
out last year and this year. Four
were given to Lakota graduates this
year.
• “Adopt-a-Highway” project
was completed with eight members
helping on Thursday, May 5. Also
discussed renewing contract. Club
is responsible for a two-mile stretch
west of Lakota along highway.
Decided to renew.
• Club members will meet sometime
this summer to make new
luminaries for use at Christmas
time.
New Business:
• Have not received any invitations
to enter the Centennial Train
in any parades as of yet. Need to
check the train for any decorations
that need to be replaced and check
that the tractor is ready, too.
Next meeting will be September
26.

Shower Held for
Emily Thomsen
Emily Thomsen, bride-to-be of
Joey Angstman, was honored at a
bridal shower on Saturday, May 21,
in St. Paul Lutheran parish hall.
Parents of the couple are Sherman
and Laura Thomsen, Lakota, and
Joe and Pam Angstman of Buffalo
Center.
Emily was introduced by Sheryl
Hinton, and in turn Emily introduced
her special guests, which
included: Emily’s mother, Laura;
groom’s mother, Pam Angstman;
grandmother, Joyce Wentworth;
aunts, Deb Goss, Sheila Koppen,
and Sheryl Hinton; sister, Megan
Holland; friends, Courtney Holland
and Dani Thomsen.
Devotions were given by Joyce
Wentworth, “1 Corinthians 13” followed
with a reading by Megan
Holland. Deb Goss was mistress of
ceremonies and the guests played a
game entitled “Dear Bride &
Groom”. Courtney Holland and
Megan Holland helped Emily open
her many gifts.
The serving table and guest
tables were decorated with tea
lights and blue and yellow flowers.
Fresh fruits and assorted breads
were served to the guests.

on June 25, 2011 at St. Paul

Vietnam Veterans
Recognition Day
Vietnam veterans and Vietnam
era veterans from around the region
are invited to attend the Vietnam
Veterans Recognition Day on
Saturday, June 11, for a free BBQ
picnic social. This event is sponsored
by the Vietnam Veterans of
America, local Chapter 790, and
will be held at the Swensrud Park
in Northwood, IA. Located along
the riverfront behind Main Street
storefronts, folks will enjoy close
parking, lots of shade trees and a
huge variety of foods. Vietnam veterans
are asked to invite fellow
Vietnam veterans to commemorate
the 50th year anniversary of the
Vietnam era.
A menu of grilled burgers, brats,
and lemonade will be furnished,
with folks asked to bring salads,
appetizers, side dishes, or desserts
to share. Serving to begin at
approximately 1:00 p.m. Military

Weekly Bus from
Lakota to B.C.
Swimming Pool
The Lakota Summer Recreation
Bus will travel from Lakota to the
Buffalo Center Swimming Pool
every Tuesday night, starting on
Tuesday, June 7. The bus will leave
from the Eagle Center at 6:45 p.m.
The bus will return to Lakota after
the pool has closed.
The bus driver will have permission
slips that need to be signed by
the parents the first night for the
kids to be able to ride.

11 picnic is honoring the Vietnam
veterans, the chapter also hosts the
“All Veterans--- All Eras” BBQ
picnic set for August 20 this year,
which honors all veterans of all
branches of the military who
served in various eras such as
WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Desert
Storm, Afganistan and Iraq, as well
as the National Guard. Features
include door prizes and raffle
items. New this year will be an
antique steam tractor cooking up
mouth watering, fresh picked,
