Club May Meeting<br />
Lakota Community Club met on<br />
Monday, May 22, at 7:00 p.m. at<br />
Miller Time Bar & Grill with nine<br />
members present. Reverend Ron<br />
Wheeler led the members in prayer<br />
of thanks followed by President<br />
Oftedahl calling the meeting to<br />
order. Minutes of the last meeting<br />
were read along with treasurer’s<br />
report.<br />
Old Business:<br />
• Discussed scholarships given<br />
out last year and this year. Four<br />
were given to Lakota graduates this<br />
year.<br />
• “Adopt-a-Highway” project<br />
was completed with eight members<br />
helping on Thursday, May 5. Also<br />
discussed renewing contract. Club<br />
is responsible for a two-mile stretch<br />
west of Lakota along highway.<br />
Decided to renew.<br />
• Club members will meet sometime<br />
this summer to make new<br />
luminaries for use at Christmas<br />
time.<br />
New Business:<br />
• Have not received any invitations<br />
to enter the Centennial Train<br />
in any parades as of yet. Need to<br />
check the train for any decorations<br />
that need to be replaced and check<br />
that the tractor is ready, too.<br />
Next meeting will be September<br />

Emily Thomsen, bride-to-be of<br />
Joey Angstman, was honored at a<br />
bridal shower on Saturday, May 21,<br />
in St. Paul Lutheran parish hall.<br />
Parents of the couple are Sherman<br />
and Laura Thomsen, Lakota, and<br />
Joe and Pam Angstman of <strong>Buffalo</strong><br />
<strong>Center</strong>.<br />
Emily was introduced by Sheryl<br />
Hinton, and in turn Emily introduced<br />
her special guests, which<br />
included: Emily’s mother, Laura;<br />
groom’s mother, Pam Angstman;<br />
grandmother, Joyce Wentworth;<br />
aunts, Deb Goss, Sheila Koppen,<br />
and Sheryl Hinton; sister, Megan<br />
Holland; friends, Courtney Holland<br />
and Dani Thomsen.<br />
Devotions were given by Joyce<br />
Wentworth, “1 Corinthians 13” followed<br />
with a reading by Megan<br />
Holland. Deb Goss was mistress of<br />
ceremonies and the guests played a<br />
game entitled “Dear Bride &<br />
Groom”. Courtney Holland and<br />
Megan Holland helped Emily open<br />
her many gifts.<br />
The serving table and guest<br />
tables were decorated with tea<br />
lights and blue and yellow flowers.<br />
Fresh fruits and assorted breads<br />
were served to the guests.<br />

Vietnam Veterans<br />
Recognition Day<br />
Vietnam veterans and Vietnam<br />
era veterans from around the region<br />
are invited to attend the Vietnam<br />
Veterans Recognition Day on<br />
Saturday, June 11, for a free BBQ<br />
picnic social. This event is sponsored<br />
by the Vietnam Veterans of<br />
America, local Chapter 790, and<br />
will be held at the Swensrud Park<br />
in Northwood, IA. Located along<br />
the riverfront behind Main Street<br />
storefronts, folks will enjoy close<br />
parking, lots of shade trees and a<br />
huge variety of foods. Vietnam veterans<br />
are asked to invite fellow<br />
Vietnam veterans to commemorate<br />
the 50th year anniversary of the<br />
Vietnam era.<br />
A menu of grilled burgers, brats,<br />
and lemonade will be furnished,<br />
with folks asked to bring salads,<br />
appetizers, side dishes, or desserts<br />
to share. Serving to begin at<br />
approximately 1:00 p.m. Military<br />

Swimming Pool<br />
The Lakota Summer Recreation<br />
Bus will travel from Lakota to the<br />
<strong>Buffalo</strong> <strong>Center</strong> Swimming Pool<br />
every Tuesday night, starting on<br />
Tuesday, June 7. The bus will leave<br />
from the Eagle <strong>Center</strong> at 6:45 p.m.<br />
The bus will return to Lakota after<br />
the pool has closed.<br />
The bus driver will have permission<br />
slips that need to be signed by<br />
the parents the first night for the<br />
kids to be able to ride.<br />

WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Desert<br />
Storm, Afganistan and Iraq, as well<br />
as the National Guard. Features<br />

antique steam tractor cooking up<br />
mouth watering, fresh picked,<br />

On February 21, 1992 she was<br />
married to Larry Shoemaker at<br />
Sheryl Kay Shoemaker, 68, of Rapid City. The couple moved to<br />
Henderson, NV, formerly of Lakota the Adrian, MN area and began<br />
and Swea City, IA, passed away on operating the Adrian Cafe. In later<br />

Sheryl grew up in the Lakota area NV. Sheryl enjoyed crafts, sand art,<br />
and graduated from the Lakota jewelry making and garage sales.<br />
High School in 1960. She then Sheryl dearly loved her family and<br />
attended Vocational school in<br />
Minneapolis and was married to<br />
Don Cordes on October 21, 1960 at<br />
Swea City. The couple lived in<br />
Swea City, where Sheryl worked at<br />
the Bancroft Bank in Bancroft, IA,<br />
later working for Artsway<br />
Company in Armstrong, IA and the<br />
Bank in Swea City. After her marriage<br />
to Don, she moved her family<br />
to Rapid City, SD and began work-<br />
