Harvest off to an early start
With a warm spring and a hot, dry summer, many area corn fields are ready for an early harvest.
Tom Holland and Jim Badje, along with numerous family members, set out for their first day of
harvest on Saturday, September 1, at the Holland farm northwest of Buffalo Center. Badje, left,
who rents the land from Holland, is accompanied on the combine by Holland’s granddaughters
Emma De Jong and Willow Oleson. Holland says the corn is ready about three or four weeks
ahead of schedule, due to the high number of heat units this summer, while planting was done
about two weeks early this spring. “It’s better than we expected, as dry as it was,” said Holland of
the yield so far. “It’s not a record crop, but it’s not a failure
come. All entries should be
dropped off at Bison Graphics in
Buffalo Center, with a deadline of
Friday, November 30.
The Buffalo Center
Quasquicentennial celebration is
planned for Saturday and Sunday,
July 1 and 2, 2017.
The committee is also seeking
someone who would be willing to
create a web page and keep it current.
Anyone willing to donate
their talent in that regard is asked
to contact Mayor Troy Armstrong
or City Hall.
and have been busy with remodeling
and updating for the new bar and
grill. The grand opening was an
opportunity for people to stop in and
see the new look. Additional changes
are to come.
The kids and grandkids were on hand to help out with the first
day of harvest Saturday, September 1 at the Tom and Gloria
Holland farm, which is farmed by Jim Badje. At top is Sarah De
Way back when
Friday, September 7
Greetings from the Iowa Senate,
With Labor Day over and the
first day of fall fast-approaching,
North Iowans have opportunities to
converse on issues we probably
haven’t talked about for a while.
With cooler temperatures this week
and a few combines crawling across
fields, words like “football,” “fall
musical,” “empty nest,” and “putting
the boat away” come to mind.
One of the great things about living
in Iowa is our four distinct seasons.
As a farmer and state legislator, I
always look forward to those special
fall opportunities to eat at a local
church soup supper, share field data
with other farmers at the local coffee
shop, and visit about the latest
school activities and issues.
The New Hampton Community
School Superintendent’s meeting the
evening of September 6 was such an
opportunity to get engaged in a conversation
about where education
needs to be headed in the state. Hats
should go off to New Hampton’s
new Superintendent, Jay Jurrens, for
organizing this meeting as a way to
collect ideas, feedback, and constructive
criticism about how our
children are doing in school, how we
can educate in an ever more complex
and connected world, and for
what jobs and career opportunities
we should be educating our students.
I counted over 50 people in attendance,
which I considered great. It’s
good to know that in Iowa’s rural
schools, people care.
Although the subject matter varied,
ranging from facilities updates
and technology enhancement, to the
issue that I’ve heard the most about
lately when door knocking – the
school lunch menu – the meeting ran
smoothly and was very informative.
New Hampton, in many respects,
has the same major problem most of
Iowa’s rural schools face: declining
enrollment and how to deal with the
state per pupil cap of about $6,000.
I’ve suggested that, particularly in
rural districts, we in the Iowa
Legislature should look specifically
at a transportation formula, above
and beyond the allowable growth
formula. Why? Because rural districts
are at an inherent disadvantage
when it comes to getting the kids to
school, and those are big budget
items for districts like Riceville and
Howard Winneshiek, West Fork and
Northwood Kensett, as well as others.
If this issue was addressed, I personally
believe it would relieve
some of the financial pressure that
rural school districts are experiencing
due to declining enrollment. If
we addressed the issue sooner than
later, we could spend more time at
the local church soup supper talking
about the good things our schools
are doing for our children and communities.
Until next time…
Your Money, Your Future program
Achieving financial goals is not just a matter of money. “It’s about an
internal desire to improve one’s finances,” says Brenda Schmitt, ISU
by Dr. Roark Horn, AEA 267
Chief Administrator
This is perhaps my favorite time
of year, as students everywhere
return to local schools, and the
excitement and energy in our communities
shifts back to education
and learning. What you might not
realize is that Area Education
Agency 267 (AEA 267), as part of
Iowa’s Area Education Agency system,
is an active partner in your
local school district’s efforts. Often,
AEA 267 staff members are working
behind-the-scenes to provide leadership
and support to local educators
in ways in which the public is
unaware. Here are five services you
may not realize that AEAs provide:
Each student is unique, and many
have individual needs that require
special support and intervention.
AEA 267 offers critical special education
support services to help. Our
agency employs specialists in speech
development, occupational therapy,
physical therapy, hearing, and
vision. Since most school districts
could not afford to employ these
specialists on their own, having
these services available to local
schools is critical. AEA 267 provides
screening services for students
in kindergarten through second
grade. We also screen again for
some services in eighth grade to
ensure that all students who need
these support services are receiving
them.
Our agency provides courses and
workshops in effective teaching
approaches, measuring student
learning, technology and much more
as part of a full menu of professional
development activities for which
classroom teachers and school
administrators can receive graduate
level credit. When you think about
where teachers go to learn, think of
us!
AEA 267 provides consultation,
research, and information services to
meet the learning needs of all students
and to support local district
library media programs. We provide
a wide variety of instructional
resources, which align with school
district needs and support effective
teaching. The AEA 267 lending
libraries provide PreK-12 and professional
materials, which include
professional books, student books,
books with audio support, DVDs,
journals, media kits and many other
Iowa AEA Online is a virtual
library that provides no-cost access
to a variety of high-quality, web–
and non-public PreK-12 schools.
Students and staff have access both
at school and at home, which allows
for safe searching of the Internet.
The web address is www.iowaaeaonline.org
The job of a school administrator
today is a complex and challenging
one that requires support. AEA 267
partners with groups like School
Administrators of Iowa (SAI) to
provide critical learning opportunities
and support for local school
administrators. The agency also
employs specialists in areas such as
human resources, finances and communication
who administrators can
turn to for specialized expertise.
As the school year progresses
and you think about the efforts of
your local school district, please
AEAs play. For more information
caught the attention of the Des
long article about her and her writings.
It is hoped that members will
think of new ways to preserve a little
of family or personal history.
News from
This was Labor Day week, so we
had that day to rest and relax and do
our own thing. We did enjoy the
extra visitors that were out and
about, too.
Tuesday, we got back into the
swing of things. George and Vera
were here in the morning to play for
us. It’s always fun to guess what
song they are playing. We sing along
to some of the, too.
Bethlehem Lutheran had the
afternoon program on Tuesday,
which was fun and interesting. It
took us back a few years; remembering
the way we washed clothes and
hung them on the line. Lunch was
cookies and bars.
The Residents Council met on
Wednesday to decide what special
things we wanted that would be fun.
We also planned a special supper for
October.
Thursday morning, we had a
sing-a-long with Theresa Thorland.
A group of people from Bethany
Lutheran got together and bought
new hymn books (40 of them) for
We also had exercise, reading, Bible
So, all in all, it was a good week.
We were happy to have the new
Arla M. Ites
Arla M. Ites, 80, of Buffalo
Center died Wednesday, September
5 in her home after suffering a sudden
heart attack. Funeral services
were held Sunday, September 9 at
the First Reformed Church, Buffalo
Center.
Arla Mildred Johnson was a
Christmas baby born to Jake and
Ruth Johnson on December 23,
1931 in Buffalo Center. She was the
youngest of three children with sister,
Dorothy, and brother, Don. She
attended Grant #4 Country School
south of town and later graduated
from Buffalo Center High School
with the class of 1949. Arla became
a member of First Reformed Church
in Buffalo Center in 1947. After
high school, Arla took her first job
at the soil conservation office in
Thompson, where she worked for
nine years.
On June 30, 1959, Arla Johnson
married Marvin Ites at the First
Reformed Church in Buffalo Center.
They lived briefly in town before
moving to a farm southeast of Buffalo Center, where they raised the typical
Iowa produce of hogs, cows, chickens and crops. Arla enjoyed her role as
farm wife and then mother to Duane (1961) and Karen (1964). Marvin and
Arla enjoyed several years with friends and family. Her children have fond
memories of the men’s quartet. (Marvin sang and Arla accompanied). They
rehearsed in their living room. Arla sang many duets with Marvin, as well
as singing in the church choir. Duane and Karen remember card club
friends and the playfulness of their parents in their joyful Christian home.
In 1972, Marvin passed away suddenly at age 50 while working on the
farm. Life changed drastically as the kids’ grandma, Ruth Johnson, moved
in to help and keep house for the family. Arla had told her brother “as long
as grandma and the kids get along, we want grandma to stay with us.” She
remained with their family from that day until her death at the age of 93 in
1999.
In 1979, Arla became a “working mother” and took a job as a typesetter
with the Buffalo Center Tribune. She remained at the local paper through the
addition of technology and could proof read like no other. She retired from
the paper staff in 2002 and enjoyed retirement at home. She loved spending
time with her children and grandchildren, coffee with her brother, Don, and
especially celebrating all holidays with sit down dinners, arguments about
what programs to watch on her one TV, games of Lincoln Logs and Checkers
and batches of wonderful varieties of homemade fudge.
Arla and her family were recently all together for Labor Day weekend in
Spirit Lake.
She is preceded in death by her parents Jake and Ruth (Balvance)
Johnson, her husband, Marvin, her sister Dorothy (Johnson) Bader, brotherin-law
Bob Bader and niece Diana Bader.
Left cherishing her love, legacy and fond memories are her son, Duane
(Sally) Ites of Spirit Lake; and her daughter, Karen (Duane) Carstens of
Hampton. Her grandchildren, Andrew and Carly Ites, and Chris and
Stephanie Carstens. Brother, Don (Crystal) Johnson, niece Sheryl Johnson,
nephew Eldon Johnson, aunt Edna Balvance and several cousins.
Shari Kirkpatrick’s father made it
home from Vietnam, but many others
from Iowa did not. She has now
made it her mission to collect a
photo of each of the Iowans named
on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial
on the National Mall.
For Kirkpatrick, the project started
this past June when The Wall
That Heals (TWTH) stopped in
Washington, IA, and she went to see
it with one of her sons and her parents.
Her father, Thomas R.
Brickman, served with the
Headquarters and Headquarters
Company, 196th Light Infantry
Brigade and was in Vietnam from
1967-68. Brickman had been drafted
into the Army from Bremer County,
IA.
“My dad has talked a little bit
about Vietnam over the years and we
have visited The Wall That Heals
before, but it was just different this
time,” Kirkpatrick said.
Her father and other veterans
swapped stories at the site and, as
the family was leaving, Bob Dobeck
approached them. Dobeck and his
wife, Brenda, are site managers for
TWTH, and Bob asked Brickman if
he had found the names he was looking
for on The Wall. Brickman told
Dobeck that he hadn’t because he
couldn’t remember some of the
information, so Dobeck helped them
use the computer database to look
up the names.
As they were searching for the
names and chatting, Dobeck mentioned
the Call For Photos initiative
to collect photos of each of the
58,282 names etched on The Wall in
Washington, D.C. Dobeck also has
Iowa ties and said he wanted to
make sure all of the names from
Iowa would have a photo in the
Education Center at The Wall being
built across the street.
Kirkpatrick decided to get
involved and help collect the photos
from Iowa. She and her parents
launched a campaign to collect the
photos and have been reaching out
statewide to accomplish their goal.
To date, VVMF has collected 356
photos of the 853 Iowans on The
Wall. Recently, an airman from Iowa
was buried at Arlington National
Cemetery, just a few miles from The
Wall. Dennis Eilers had been missing
since his plane went down over
Laos in 1965. Eilers’ photo is one of
those from Iowa that has been submitted
and will be displayed in the
Education Center.
Titonka banker to head
statewide Agriculture
Committee
Lori J. Bertram of TSB Bank,
Titonka, has been named chairperson
of the Iowa Bankers Association’s
(IBA) Agriculture Committee.
Bertram’s responsibilities on the
committee will entail serving as a
liaison between the banking and
agriculture communities, including
farm organizations, Iowa State
University, State Department of
Agriculture, the Rural Economic
and Community Development
division of USDA and various
other governmental agencies.
The committee strives to enhance
communication and education
among all these factions. Support
of agricultural youth groups like
4-H and FFA is also among the
committee’s activities, as well as
providing input to the association’s
agriculture policy.
Bertram currently serves as
Vice President/Sr. Loan Officer for
TSB Bank. Bertram has 18 years
of lending experience, specializing
in agricultural lending. She grew
up on the family farm near Buffalo
Center and graduated from North
Iowa High School and from Iowa
State University with a Bachelor
of Science degree in Agricultural
Business. Betram has also
received her Masters of Business
Administration degree from the
University of Northern Iowa and
is a graduate of the Iowa School of
Banking and Graduate School of
Banking at Colorado. She has also
shown a commitment to community
Lori Bertram
involvement during her banking
career.
“I’m looking forward to
sharing ideas from North Central
Iowa through a well-respected
organization that has a direct
connection to our statewide
agricultural organizations,” said
Bertram.
The Iowa Bankers Association
was founded in 1887 to provide a
voice for Iowa’s financial services
industry. Today, IBA represents 95
percent of the state’s commercial
banks and thrifts, providing services
in legislative advocacy, training,
regulatory compliance and services
designed to enhance the ability of
banks to serve their communities.
The USDA is taking more
actions to assist farmers
impacted by the 2012 drought.
Changes include extending
the emergency grazing of
Conservation Reserve Program
(CRP) acreage deadline and
emergency loans.
John R. Whitaker, State
Executive Director for
USDA’s Farm Service Agency,
announced an extension to the
emergency grazing deadline
of CRP acreage, which will be
allowed on limited practices.
The deadline is now November
30. Producers interested in
emergency grazing must
remove livestock no later than
November 30. Emergency
haying on CRP acres was not
extended past August 31.
“The severity and ongoing
drought conditions, has created
the need for changes to Risk
Management Agency (RMA)
provisions. RMA will allow
producers to hay or graze cover
crops without forfeiting crop
insurance eligibility on planted
2013 spring crops. This change
is beneficial to livestock
producers; making forage
and feed available this fall
and winter. Producers should
contact their crop insurance
agent for more information,”
said Whitaker.
Due to natural disasters
throughout Iowa, producers
who have suffered major
production and/or physical
losses may be eligible for
low interest emergency loans.
Modifications will be made to
the emergency loan program
allowing loans for losses to
feed and pasture to be made
earlier in the season. Producers
will no longer have to wait
until the end of the production
cycle to obtain a loan. This
change will support producers
who currently need assistance
to help offset high production
costs. In addition to Emergency
Loans, FSA has a variety of
other loan programs available
to assist producers in returning
to normal farming operations.
“Adding more flexibility to
current program requirements
will make much needed
assistance more readily
available to producers affected
by disaster,” said Whitaker.
“Many of these changes will
benefit livestock producers who
are facing higher feed costs or
are at risk of liquidating their
herd due to the drought.”
Contact your crop insurance
agent for more information
regarding special provisions to
RMA insurance provisions. For
Cost sharing assistance
for cover crops
Practical Farmers of Iowa
encourages farmers to sign up for
cover crop funds newly authorized
by the Iowa Department of
Agriculture and Land Stewardship
as an eligible practice under Iowa’s
cost share program.
The emergency rule change,
announced recently by Iowa
SecretaryofAgricultureBillNorthey,
allows cost sharing assistance of $25
per acre for planting a cover crop.
Farmers interested in accessing these
funds should visit their local county
Natural Resources Conservation
Service office.
With unused nitrogen left in
soils from this summer’s drought,
cover crops can help capture that
leftover fertility and store it until
spring. Cover crops also help control
erosion, protect water quality and
boost soil’s water-holding capacity.
There’s a catch, however: To be
beneficial, cover crops must be
planted soon, before expected
autumn rains wash nitrogen away.
Eric Franzenburg of Pheasant
Run Farm raises alternative crops,
conventional corn and soybeans
and farrow-to-finish hogs near Van
Horne. For the past four years, he has
planted a fall cover crop on one of
his conventional row crop fields and
says he has routinely observed higher
yields in that field. In addition, he
says that this year, in particular, the
cover crop field showed noticeably
less drought stress.
“We’re using a combination of
the cover crop – winter rye – with
Gov. Terry E. Branstad signed
a proclamation last week to allow
the transportation of oversized and
overweight loads of soybeans, corn,
hay, straw, silage and stover. The
proclamation took effect on Sept. 4
and expires after 60 days.
“Many Iowans’ livelihoods
depend on a smooth, efficient
harvest season,” said Branstad. “I
am pleased to sign this proclamation,
which will allow the movement of
Iowa’s commodities and help Iowa
farmers during harvest.”
This proclamation applies to
loads transported on all highways
within Iowa, excluding the interstate
system, and which do not exceed a
maximum of 90,000 pounds gross
weight, do not exceed the maximum
swine manure. It appears that the
cover crop is able to hold those
nutrients in the root zone for the corn
crop the following year – which is
one of the reasons we plant cover
crops,” Franzenburg says.
“We haven’t harvested anything
yet, but the field we put the cover
crop on has borne the dry conditions
pretty well,” he adds. “The crop is
in pretty good health – and when
we did a yield estimate, it looks like
the field that had the cover crop will
yield much higher than our other
fields.”
Franzenburg says farmers
thinking about signing up for the
cover crop cost share funds can’t
go wrong in planting a cover crop –
and the $25 per acre assistance will
defray most expenses.
“That amount more than covers
your seed and planting cost,”
Franzeburg says. “You might have
a little extra cost that you’ll have to
pay, but $25 per acre would cover
most of your costs.”
While IDALS has authorized the
rule change, each individual Soil and
Water Conservation District has the
final say whether it will offer cost
share assistance for cover crops.
And, in order to quality for cost
share, the practice must meet NRCS
specifications.
start in the first quarter, with two
touchdown runs by Jonathan
Johnson, who totaled 305 rushing
yards in the game. The Mustangs
missed their first point after attempt
but scored on a two-point conversion
after their second touchdown
for a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
The Mustangs jumped further
ahead in the second quarter, with
two more touchdown runs for a 26-0
lead before the Bison finally made
their way onto the board. Frank
Campos pushed the ball into the end
zone, and a PAT kick by Troy
Kettwick reduced the Bison’s deficit
to 26-7 at halftime.
North Iowa took control in the
third quarter, scoring on a nine-yard
touchdown run by Campos with a
PAT by Kettwick, while holding the
Mustangs scoreless.
Newell-Fonda scored once more
in the fourth with another touchdown
by Johnson and a two-point
conversion. Eric Krull then connected
with Tate Corporon on a
19-yard touchdown pass to make the
final score Newell-Fonda 34, North
Iowa 20.
“We made way too many mistakes
early in the game, with turnovers
and missed tackles,” said
Bison Head Coach Don Anderson.
“Our field position the first quarter
was really poor due to our mistakes,
and we just dug too big of a hole.
“We weren’t as aggressive as we
needed to be to beat a good team like
Newell-Fonda,” Anderson continued.
“We weren’t very consistent in
just about all areas of the game; we
made some poor reads both offensively
and defensively. We have
some things to work on. On the
positive side, we didn’t give up and
battled back in the second half and
made a game of it.”
The Bison prevailed for their
second win of the season on Friday,
August 31, in a well-matched contest
at Harris-Lake Park.
The Wolves started things off
with a 32-yard touchdown run in the
first quarter and the extra point for a
7-0 lead. The Bison responded as
Eric Krull pushed through on a oneyard
touchdown run, but the point
after kick failed to leave North Iowa
at a one-point deficit at the end of
the first.
The Wolves scored next in the
second quarter to take a 14-6 lead
before a 23-yard touchdown run by
Krull with just 10 seconds remaining
before halftime. The two-point
conversion from Krull to Frank
Campos was good, as the Bison tied
the game 14-14 at the half.
North Iowa finally took the lead
in the third quarter, as Mark
Milbrandt scored a touchdown off a
fumble recovery. Milbrandt scored
again with a 12-yard reception from
Krull, and with a successful PAT
kick from Troy Kettwick, the Bison
had a 27-14 advantage at the end of
the third.
Harris-Lake Park responded with
a 10-yard touchdown run in the
fourth, along with the point after.
The Bison fired back, as Campos ran
in another touchdown from the one
yard line. The Wolves put the final
points on the board with a 19-yard
touchdown pass and point after to
end the game with the Bison up
33-28.
“Very exciting game; either team
could have won,” said Bison Head
Coach Don Anderson. “H-LP creates
a lot of defensive matchups
with their speed. I thought our kids
played extremely hard and found a
Tate Corporon 4/155
Bison off to 2-0 start with win
at Harris-Lake Park
way to win the game. A couple of
things that really enabled us to win
the game was that we recovered
three onside kicks and were able to
run the football in the fourth quarter
to eat up the clock and keep their
explosive offense on the sidelines.
“We have some areas on both
sides of the ball that we need to
work on and fix before we play
against highly rated Newell-Fonda
[September 7] at Bison Field,”
added Anderson. “Again, [I’m]
pleased with the kids’ effort. [It’s]
nice to be 2-0, but now the games
become very important with district
play beginning.”
The Lady Bison hit the road last
week for matches in Osage and
Garner, where they were bested by
both NIC foes.
First up was Osage on Tuesday,
Sept. 4, where the Green Devils won
in three sets, 25-16, 25-15 and 25-11.
Morgan Hassebroek and Paige
Hassebroek led the Lady Bison in
kills with three each, followed by
Maddie Arnevik and Rachel
Boekelman with two each. Carly
Main served the lone ace for North
Iowa, while M. Hassebroek served
9/9. Boekelman had one block and
nine digs.
“Osage is a great team who will
probably end up in the top two of our
conference,” said Lady Bison Head
Coach Carissa Judge. “They do a
great job of digging the ball up and
hitting hard. We came out strong the
first two games and stuck with them
until 10/12 points each game.
Unfortunately, at that point, we
Lady Bison support “Cally’s Cause”
The Lady Bison supported a good cause as they played volleyball at Osage last Tuesday, Sept. 4.
Each Lady Bison purchased a “Cally’s Cause” t-shirt, which supports a special project for people
fighting cancer.
Cally Niess, a former Osage volleyball player, came up with the idea of making a Chemo Bag for
anyone going through chemotherapy after her mother’s battle with breast cancer in March 2009.
It started as a 4-H project and has since expanded locally, statewide and even nationally. Cally
sews the bags and then fill them with supplies which are needed while going through chemo.
Each bag costs around $40 to make and fill up.
The North Iowa players each bought a t-shirt for $12; $5 of which goes to the cost of putting
together a bag. The bags are free to the patient, and anyone who knows someone in need of a bag
may contact North Iowa Head Coach Carissa Judge or email niess@osage.net
conference season heats up
Students who need to complete a
hunter safety course to get their
hunting license can now take the
first step of that training on their
smart phone, tablet or laptop at
www.hunter-ed.com/iowa
The pages at the website automatically
resize according to the
device used, from a smart phone to
Internet TV. There’s no app to download
and each page is easy to view
and read.
Students can access the course on
the Web even if the only way they
have to connect to the Internet is via
their smart phone.
The training at www.hunter-ed.
com/iowa is state-approved and covers
the same material that’s taught in
the classroom. The new mobileready
site features realistic illustrations
and interactive animations. An
stayed neutral in our game and they
stepped up theirs. They got on a little
run that we could never get
caught back up or overcome. They
were running many different plays
that kept our blockers guessing who
and where they were going to set.
“We start out great, but we need
to maintain playing at the top of our
game throughout the entire night,”
added Coach Judge.
The Lady Bison came out strong
when they traveled to Garner on
Thursday, Sept. 6, but they fell to the
Cardinals in four sets, scoring 28-26,
8-25, 11-25 and 16-25
P. Hassebroek led North Iowa
with nine kills on the night, followed
by M. Hassebroek with six and
Arnevik with four. M. Hassebroek
made 13 digs, and Arnevik served
two aces. Boekelman served 11/11
with one ace, and P. Hassebroek
served 7/7, also with an ace.
Boekelman made one block.
“We came out playing really well
the first game,” said Coach Judge.
“It was such a fun game to watch,
and it went back and forth the whole
game. Our girls did a good job of
digging and swinging hard at the
net.” The first set went into extra
points, with a two-point lead needed
to win. “I was proud of them for
sticking with the game and never
giving up,” added Judge.
“After the first game, we kind of
went downhill,” the coach continued.
“I’m not even sure what happened.
We were playing timid and
looked scared to hit the ball out of
bounds. We struggled with serve
receive, and when that was good,
another part of our game was off. We
just couldn’t put everything together
the rest of the night. Hopefully we
can focus on how we played the first
game and carry that into next week
against Lake Mills and Mason City
Newman.”
Online Hunter Safety Course now
compatible with mobile technology
optional narration feature is available
in many states, allowing students
to hear the course in English
and Spanish.
The website also has introduced a
series of hunter safety videos. The
new videos cover topics such as tree
stand hunting safety, firearms safety,
hunting from a ground blind, effectiveness
of blaze orange and more.
Studying at www.hunter-ed.com/
iowa is free. Students who must be
certified before buying a hunting
license pay a one-time fee, which is
due only if they pass the test.
