In 2011 itproduced 2641 tonnes of uranium.The uranium from Ranger generateselectricity in Japan, South Korea,China, Europe and North America.ERA also holds title to theJabiluka deposit. This world-classdeposit, also located in theNorthern Territory, is undera Long Term Care and MaintenanceAgreement and will not bedeveloped without the approvalof the Mirarr Traditional Owners.8We also support and share initiativesto reduce emissions from the use ofour product by our customers.
Around 40 per cent ofthe world’s electricityis generated by coal.Building a future with local communitiesThe Clermont Preferred Futuresprogramme, a partnershipbetween Isaac Regional Councilin Queensland and Rio Tinto CoalAustralia, has proven to be asuccessful model of engagementand community development.The programme has seen us helpthe Clermont community to mapout its vision for a sustainablefuture, leading to local communitygroups and organisationsdeveloping strategies to preparefor growth and development.An example of our successfulcollaboration has been theidentification and timelyrelease of residential andindustrial land to cater forthe growing community.In 2011, the programmereceived a high commendationat the Australian NationalAwards for EconomicDevelopment Excellence.9
