WELLNESS PROGRAMby Sharee’ AndradeAt Brutoco we are family. Family means that we need to make sure that everyone is healthy andtaken care of. One of the ways that we ensure employee wellness is through our safety program, butwe also want to support healthy lifestyles beyond the worksite or office.Brutoco is taking steps to develop a wellness program that will include a Health and Wellness Fair atthe upcoming employee picnic, monthly Top Health paycheck handouts, healthy tid-bits, corporatediscounts at gyms, stretch and flex curriculum, future Brut Force articles, and much more.We welcome your thoughts on the resources we can provide to improve your wellness. Pleasecontact HR Manager Sharee’ Andrade with your suggestions for the program.Healthy Tid-Bit“What’s for lunch?”It seems that most people look forward to lunch all day. With that, you want to make sure you are not only maximizing your walletBUT your nutrition as well. Here are a few samples that you can enhance your “brown bag” lunch:• Cold Cheese and Fruit Kit: Make your own “Lunchables” by filling a reusable container with assorted cheeseslices, easy-to-eat fruit like apple slices and grapes, and whole wheat crackers.• Fish in a Pinch: Work a fish serving into your week by adding tuna or salmon toyour green salad, pasta salad, or sandwich.• Pasta Salad Prep: Make cold pasta salad with leftover pasta shapes from last night. Toss chilled wholegrain pasta with cheese cubes, lots of bite-size vegetables, and a homemade or bottled vinaigrettedressing made with olive oil or canola oil.• Sushi with Veggies: Pick up a tray of premade vegetable sushi at your supermarket or favorite Japaneserestaurant. It makes a great grab-and-go lunch the next day.• Wrap It Up: Make your sandwich wrap the night before, using a whole grain flour tortilla and spreads like green or sun-driedtomato pesto, olive tapenade, or honey mustard. Layer it with slices of lean meat or cheese, assorted vegetables, tomato, onion, and lettuce.STRETCH AND FLEX AT THE FONTANA OFFICEby Laurence FortinOn July 25, Brutoco administrative employees in the Fontana office started their first week ofstretch and flex exercises. This was initiated as part of our overall health and wellness programthat we started this year to benefit our employees and support behavior that reduces healthrisks. Management wanted to start this effort at the Fontana office to examine the pros andcons firsthand. From personal experience, I can say that I have noticed a big difference between startingmy day after stretching compared to not stretching. You really can feel a difference in youroverall physical energy and mental focus. It was also great to hear Mike Bergeon yell wordsof encouragement while we were on the slab in front of his office. Thanks for the motivation,Mike!Sessions are held daily at 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. in front of the shop, so if you’re in the main office plan on joiningone and get your day started right with a good stretch.12 THE BRUT FORCE | 18th Edition | September 2011
