What isespecially encouraging is that there were a variety of faculty fromseveral different departments involved in those proposals, whichwere to Eastern Virginia Medical School, St. Louis University, theNational Science Foundation, and the city of Virginia Beach. Lastyear we reported that Professor Harris Wu in informationtechnology (IT) is Primary Investigator on $700,000 in fundingfrom the National Science Foundation. His success has inspiredothers, hence two other faculty members in the IT discipline wroteproposals this year to the National Science Foundation.Earlier I mentioned teaching awards our faculty won. We alsoreceived some notable research recognition. Dr. John Ford andDr. Anusorn Singhapakdi, professors of marketing, have beenrecognized as “prolific authors” with respect to publications ininternational business journals, in an article titled “Prolific authorsand institutions in leading international business journals” (Xu, S.;Yalcinkaya, G.; and Seggie, S., 2008, Asia Pacific Journal ofManagement, 25:189-207). Additionally, Old DominionUniversity is ranked #17 (tied) on the list of universities with themost prolific international business scholars.International business has long been a focus area for the college;it’s in our mission statement. Therefore you can imagine ourdelight when a faculty member who was introduced last year atthis event as a new hire, won the Richard N. Farmer OutstandingDissertation award from the Academy of International Business attheir annual meeting in Milan, Italy. SHOW SLIDE OF AJAIProfessor Gaur’s thesis is titled “Essays on Strategic Adaption andFirm Performance during Institutional Transition.” Thisachievement is more proof that we are getting the right people onour bus.
