MAGPASIn March 2013, Silver Boots Line DanceClub of St Neots, held their annual CharityLine Dance at St Neots Outdoor Bowls Club.Teacher Sylvie World told us: “This yearscharity was MAGPAS, The EmergencyMedical Charity. About 70 dancers turnedup on the night all dressed in orange, asthis is the Magpas colour. We raised a totalof £620 and we had a further donation onthe night of £200 making a total £820. PamHeath and Becky Barfoote from MAGPASattended on the night and Pam Gaveus a short talk on the work of MAGPAS.Everyone had a great time dancing thenight away.”One StepForward“On February 18th this year,we held our annual charityevening,” Christine Garrensof One Step Forward LineDancers told us: “This yearwe were entertained byTim McCay. We hold thisevening in memory of Sylviawho absolutely loved herLine dancing and also toraise awareness of childrenborn with heart defects. Wedivide the proceeds betweenTeesside Hospice (for Sylvia)and Little Hearts Matter (asupport system charity tohelp families with childrenwith heart defects). This yearwe raised a total of £1,203which brings our overall totalto £ 11,528.00.This is justto say thank you to all whohelped in any way.”Supporters of LDFMichelle Marcus and Line dancers fromBlue Velvet Line Dancers, descended onEastbourne in March 2013 for a fun fi lledweekend of Line dancing. “There were43 of us (including three non dancinghusbands – they still haven’t got the bug).The dancers, who were mostly Beginnersand Improvers, came from several classesacross Hertfordshire taught by Val Hambyand Beverley Busolini. The proceedingsstarted after dinner on Friday night with adisco playing various requests that keptdancers on the fl oor until 11.30pm. Val andBeverley taught the following dances duringthe weekend: Let’s Dance Forever (LDF);Special Birthday Boy!Joy Ashton of Southern Stomp Line DanceClub told us: “Phil Ashton would like to thankall the ‘Southern Stomp’ dancers for hissurprise party to celebrate a rather specialbirthday! All the dancersacross all the classesdonated for a gift that hewill surely remember, a 40minute trial fl ight along thecoast in a Cessna airplane!He has assured us that hewill let everyone know whenhe is taking his fl ight so thateveryone can go along andwave, he has promised on hisDance With Me Baby; Little Mermaid; Is ItFriday Yet? and some older dances whichthey also revived were Halfway Hustle andIce Breaker. On Saturday evening the hallwas transformed into a blaze of orange,green and white for our theme of St.Patrick’s Day, with bunting, balloons andknick knacks ranging from Guinness toleprechauns! Some very imaginative tabledecorations were made by the dancers whofollowed the theme through by dressing ingreen, orange and white.
