Pinewood News August 25, 201421MUNDS PARK COMMUNITYEMERGENCY SHELTERAround three years ago Munds Park experienced a storm severe enough thatInterstate 17 was closed. One of the results of that action was a group ofstranded motorists needing food and lodging in our area. So our communityresidents sprung into action opening the Church giving shelter to those in need.Due to this incident, the MUNDS PARK COMMUNITY EMERGENCYSHELTER was established. With some assistance from Red Cross, the MundsPark Community Church was officially designated as a shelter in case of anytype of disaster that could occur in our area.As of today, we have a supply of food, toiletries, blankets, cots and a group ofvolunteers along with the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)dedicated to help sustain 100 people for three days. Several issues that comewith an emergency shelter have been addressed in order to keep the shelterrunning in an efficient manner, but it doesn’t mean that we couldn’t use the helpof additional volunteers who live in Munds Park full-time or part-time. Forexample, some of those coming to the emergency shelter may have a pet travellingwith them and the shelter cannot have pets; it would be of great service ifmembers of our community could take a pet to their home temporarily.Residents who can play an instrument or enjoy organizing games to entertain agroup are a valuable asset. Even if you could just come down for a couple ofhours to give the core group of volunteers a little break.
