Max/Tight Cushion is an excellent mechanism for double-covering a TE or tightslotback. It requires an End aligned Loose next to an Open Tackle, who assumesthe End's contain responsibilities (see p. 14 -- with a TE on the defensive left,this would limit potential 1L fronts to five choices: 11 as shown below, and "theLefts" -- 2 Left, 3 Left, 4 Left and 5 Left). At the snap, the End bumps the TEand Maxes him from an underneath position; the 2L defender mirroring theTE/slot then plays a Max Soft technique on the receiver, double covering him allover the field.
