It was a bigrisk,” Winslow admits—one that paid off dramatically.She led sales andmarketing in 1991, movedto international sales, andwas one of the corporateofficers that took thecompany public in 1995.In 1997, she becamepresident of Dendrite’sAmerica division andretired in January 2002.As if one career wasn’t enough, Winslownow consults for Edison Ventures and mostrecently served as interim president andCEO for Taratec. “I go in, manage change, getcompanies grounded, and then move on.”She believes her USP degree was thebiggest door opener. “People recognizethe school. The reputation and respectabilityare unparalleled in the pharmaceuticalbusiness.” She believes the discipline shelearned was invaluable. “You had to be prepared.It was where I began to learn lifelessons. And it’s a big reason I am where Iam today.”TERESA FLICK WINSLOW P’78 began hercareer at Eli Lilly in pharmaceutical sales.She learned quickly she had the soul of anentrepreneur—something Lilly couldn’tnurture. But Key Pharmaceuticals—a smaller,up-and-coming pharmaceutical company—could. Key was the first in the business tooffer commissions. For Winslow it was anepiphany, “Tying compensation to performancejust made huge sense.”Within eight years, Winslow moved fromfield sales to executive director of a division.When Schering-Plough acquired Key,Winslow moved on. “This big corporate gigwas not me.”Along with the education that she received atwhat MARY PARENTI P’85, PharmD’87 calls“one of the most solid pharmacy programsin the country,” she acquired a mindset thatwas indispensable. “Pharmacy school is noteasy. You have to make a personal commitmentto put the time in to study and work hard.Success stems from those same principles.”The many challenges she encounteredas a student at USP all played a part in hercareer that actually spun off from her specializedresidency in Drug Information atThomas Jefferson University Hospital. Herfirst job was as a medical writer, but shemoved quickly on to a senior position at
