Volume 1: Basics for starting up a computer recycling businessIn September 2007, HP launched a project with the Digital GlobalSolidarity Fund (DSF) and the Swiss Institute for Materials Science andTechnology (Empa) to address the growing problem of electronic wastein Africa. This collaboration aims to both reduce potential health and environmentalhazards caused by improper disposal of electronic waste andcreate jobs in disadvantaged communities. The initial phase consists of apilot project in South Africa together with an analysis of existing practicesin Morocco and Kenya. Its team has already been working on the developmentof various EEE recycling plants, recycling programme and businessdevelopment.
