Surgeons and the Royal <strong>College</strong> of Physicians and Surgeons of<br />

Matteo Pasquale 1975<br />
Matteo attended <strong>Stanstead</strong> <strong>College</strong> from 1972 to 1975. He is the<br />
CEO of Cintec Group, which specializes in the treatment and<br />
landfill of contaminated soils, rehabilitation of contaminated<br />
sites, construction of engineered landfill sites, integrated municipal<br />
waste management and hazardous waste elimination. He is<br />
the father of Grade 7 student, Anthony.<br />
Philip Renaud 1989<br />
Philip attended <strong>Stanstead</strong> <strong>College</strong> from 1986 to 1989. He graduated<br />
from Franklin <strong>College</strong> of Switzerland with a BA in<br />
International Financial Management and is presently managing<br />
director of Church Advisors, a European financial advisory business.<br />
Until recently, he was a founding partner of Change<br />
A few words about debating at SC<br />
<strong>Stanstead</strong> <strong>College</strong> hosted its second Invitational Junior<br />
Debating Tournament on October 12. Forty-four students from<br />
11 schools from Montreal and the Eastern Townships participated.<br />
Participating schools were <strong>Stanstead</strong> <strong>College</strong>, Bishop’s <strong>College</strong><br />
School, The Study, Miss Edgar’s & Miss Cramp’s School, Lower<br />
Canada <strong>College</strong>, Vincent Massey Collegiate, Trafalgar School for<br />
Girls, Selwyn House, Royal West Academy and Centennial<br />
Academy.<br />
Capital Partners, a 300 million Euro private equity fund. In the<br />
past 10 years he has worked closely with his family in both private<br />
equity and natural resources. He currently holds directorships<br />
with Canadian Underwriting Ltd., Dia Bras Exploration<br />
Inc., Barewalls.com and the Churchwine Company. He lives in<br />
London, England with his wife Estefania and their three children.<br />
Harry Walker 1947<br />
A native of Montreal, Harry attended <strong>Stanstead</strong> <strong>College</strong> for<br />
Grades 10 and 11 from 1945 to 1947. After graduation, he<br />
worked for a year as a junior clerk at the Bank of Toronto in<br />
Montreal before going into business for himself. This eventually<br />
led to a chain of five Walker’s Dry Cleaning outlets in the west<br />
end of Montreal. In the seventies, Harry purchased Evans & Co.,<br />
which specialized in automobile after-market supplies. Retired<br />
for the past 18 years, Harry enjoys golf and divides his year<br />
between his home in Beaconsfield and Florida.<br />
The day included three rounds of impromptu debate, followed<br />
by a closing debate between the top two teams.<br />
The winning team from Selwyn House consisted of Harry<br />
Cape and Marc Perlman, with runners-up Harley Nadler and<br />
Duncan Stewart from Centennial Academy.<br />
The top speaker was Michael Oberman from Royal West<br />
Academy. <strong>Stanstead</strong>'s William Bright was fifth, while Javier<br />
Quintero placed eighth.<br />
The tournament’s judges were drawn from the participating<br />
schools and the community. <strong>Stanstead</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />
students assisted as timekeepers.<br />
In other debating news, Helen White, Grade<br />
11, was selected as one of three Quebec students<br />
to participate in a qualifying event in<br />
Vancouver in November to select the<br />
Canadian Schools Debating Team for the next<br />
World’s Debating Tournament in Greece in<br />
February 2009.<br />
Three students from each province across<br />
Canada competed for a spot on the nine-member<br />
team. Helen made a good showing but<br />
unfortunately did not place.<br />
In January, Helen and Grade 12 student<br />
Ives-Hugo Lanoie qualified to compete at the<br />
10th Annual National Debating<br />
Championships to be held in Calgary, Alberta<br />
in April.<br />
