Death of Al Haaj Umer Ibrahim, Sultan of Agadez, Niger.23 rd March - The Promised Messiah and Mahdi It was 123 years ago today that a magnificent prophecy regarding the second phase of Islam was fulfilled. A prophecy of the Holy Prophet(saw) was fulfilled in accordance with the details he had given and thePromised Mahdi and Messiah’s advent took place. Hudhur Aqdas said that each year on 23 March we should not be joyous merely because we are commemorating Promised Messiah Day or that Alhamdolillah, we are a part of this Community, or that we are awareof its early history or that we organise a Jalsa in this regard. Much more than this, we have to reflect whether we have fulfilled the dues of this Bai’at. As a reminder of this, today Hudhur Aqdas gave a discoursebased on the words of the Promised Messiah(as) expounding the ten conditions of Bai’at. The Promised Messiah(as) said: ‘Tauhid [Unity of God] does not simply mean that you say la ilaha illAllah with your tongue but then hide hundreds of idols in your heart. Anyone who gives reverence to his own plans, mischief or clever designs as he should revere God, or depends upon another person as one should depend upon God alone, or reveres his own ego as he should revere God alone, in all such conditions he is an idolworshipperin the sight of Allah. The Promised Messiah(as) said: So all ye people who count yourselves as members of my Jama‘at, in heaven you shall be counted members of my following only when you truly begin to advance on the paths ofrighteousness. Offer your five daily Obligatory Prayers with such concentration and awe of mind as though you were seeing God in front of you. The Promised Messiah(as) said: Revival of Islam demands a ransom from us. What is it? It is us dying in this very path. This is the death upon which the life of Islam, the life of Muslims, and the manifestation of theLiving God depend. This is exactly what is called Islam, and God now wants to revive this very Islam. The Promised Messiah(as) said: Now rush towards me because this is the time that he who runs toward me now is like the one who gets on board the ship right at the time of a storm. But if someone does not acceptme, I see that he is throwing himself into a storm and has no means of saving himself. Hudhur Aqdas said this is the teaching of the Promised Messiah(as) which he expects of us. Today we need to self-reflect and self-examine in terms of these conditions of Bai’at. May God forgive our weaknesses andmay He remove them and bring about pious change in us. Hudhur Aqdas said that 23 March is also commemorated as Pakistan Day and addressing Pakistan Ahmadis Hudhur asked them to pray for the country in the critical juncture that it is going through. May God savePakistan, may He save Pakistan for the sake of the Ahmadis.30 th March - : Salat is the key to Personal assessment and improvementHudhur Aqdas said that God wills to especially purify people who have joined the Community of the Promised Messiah(as) and for this we have to ponder over ourselves with the minutest of detail. While weimprove and reform our faith we also need to reform our practice. Each Ahmadi should aspire to live a life of Taqwa and purity for a life led on these lines alone will bring about revolutionary change. This revolutionary change cannot come about without reforming one’s faith as wellas reforming one’s practices. The Promised Messiah(as) has elucidated that the five pillars of Islam are our faith and we follow the Qur’an as we are enjoined to follow it. Where there is any conflict between Hadith and Qur’an we givepreference to what the Qur’an states. He said we believe that there is no God but Allah and Muhammad(saw) is His Messenger and Seal of all the Prophets. The Promised Messiah(as) said that in terms of faith there is no difference between Ahmadis and other Muslims. Hudhur said so much so that after the Promised Messiah(as) some sections of mainstream Muslimsalso believe in death of Hadhrat Esa(as) and the concept of ‘bloody Mahdi’ has also changed. In this sense there is some faith-based correction in them.Hudhur related an anecdote of an elder whose student was about to leave him after finishing his education. The elder asked the student if there was Satan where he was going. The student answered that Satan waseverywhere. The elder said that if he was to put in practice whatever he had learned about religion and Satan attacked him, what would he do?Hudhur Aqdas said the office-holders need to set an example regarding observance of Salat. If the office-holders on every level, in every auxiliary were to improve their observance of Salat and came to the mosque, the ambience of the mosque would be enhanced. This would have a positive effect on children and youngsters.Hudhur said he wished to draw special attention towards payment of Zakat. Although Ahmadis are very generous in giving but one aspect of financial sacrifice is Zakat which should be particularly heeded to.We should be mindful to avoid every ill and adopt every good. We should be role models for the youngsters as well as for our families and colleagues. Every young and old person should adopt this to a degree thatwould eradicate every kind of badness.New Malden Qiadat Newsletter 3
