Two commercial properties already "smart grid ready"After testing the system on Bouygues Immobilier's Galeo head office,Schneider Electric has now fitted Bouygues Telecom's office block,Tour Sequana, with a building management system that will help it smooth outenergy consumption peaks. The building, completed four years ago, is thereforenow equipped to become "smart grid ready".The air conditioning system was first tested on 29 July this year during a veryhot spell. Office spaces were ventilated with cool air collected and stored inthe night, thus avoiding peaks in consumption throughout the day. This initial90-minute demand response test, which went completely unnoticed byemployees, saved around 500 kWh, equating to the consumption of a fewhundred housing units.This building management system will also control the battery charging speed ofeight electric vehicles, by adjusting it to the power grid and user reservations.The Eos building, leased by Microsoft and Steria, will also soon be fitted with abuilding management system.Launch of a smart street lighting networkSmart street lamps have been installed by Bouygues Energies & Services inthree streets of the Seine Ouest district, enabling street lighting to be adjustedto traffic conditions, the time of day and the season. This system will help themunicipality of Issy-les-Moulineaux to generate big savings in an area whichaccounts for an average 40% of its electricity bill.Renovation and upgrade of the district's electricity substationThe Rue Bara substation ensures the correct balance between the consumption,production and storage of electricity. Following the installation of smarttechnologies (concentrator, servo drives), it can now integrate a power storagesolution based on batteries recycled from electric vehicles.The substation is connected to photovoltaic solar panels on Tour Sequana. Therenewable energy produced by these panels will be stored and then fed into thenetwork as and when required by the district.Opening of an augmented reality virtual showroomLocal authorities, businesses, institutional investors and experts can consult datarelating to the main operating units of IssyGrid ® in this showroom. A tablet apphas also been developed to display IssyGrid's ® initial achievements to visitors inaugmented reality.2
Four new developments are planned:-The integration of additional renewable energy resources: a building permitis to be filed in the next few weeks by Total so that it can installphotovoltaic panels and a weather station on the Trieo building.-The installation of electricity storage batteries in the Trieo building.-The installation of an energy flexibility system in the Trieo, Eos and Farmanbuildings.-The gradual integration of 1,650 housing units of the Fort d'Issy district intothe IssyGrid ® project. Thanks to sensors, they will be connected to thedistrict's analysis centre and, from 2014, will be fitted with ERDF's smartmeters.-The development of new digital solutions capable of creating innovativeservices for both consumers and producers of energy."The roll-out of IssyGrid ® is now a reality. Those living in the Seine Ouestdistrict, and soon in Fort d'Issy, will gradually get the benefits of this pilotscheme, which is the only one in France, making Issy-les-Moulineaux agenuine pioneer of smart city technology. This experience can now be used todevelop the positive energy neighbourhoods of the city of the future. Inaddition to the environmental benefits, IssyGrid ® has major educational andsocial significance. It also opens up prospects for job creation and is a fullyfledgedtest bed for the design of a new economic model and long-termregulatory framework," said André Santini, former minister, Member ofParliament and mayor of Issy-les-Moulineaux, as well as Chairman of thesupervisory board of the "Grand Paris" project.This pilot project, designed by Bouygues Immobilier, is an unprecedentedexperimental platform that highlights all the energy challenges surrounding theeco-neighbourhoods of the future and paves the way to tomorrow's smart city.3
