<strong>Minutes</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Volusia</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>FSMS</strong> <strong>Chapter</strong> <strong>Meeting</strong> – <strong>August</strong> <strong>11</strong>, 2009approved by <strong>the</strong> membership 9/8/09Tuesday <strong>August</strong> <strong>11</strong>, 2009<strong>Chapter</strong> President Larry Efird Jr. called <strong>the</strong> meeting to order at 6:35 P.M. The meeting was held at <strong>the</strong> Oyster Pubin Daytona Beach with <strong>11</strong> members (per <strong>the</strong> sign in roster) in attendance. Larry read <strong>the</strong> antitrust statement andhad everyone introduce <strong>the</strong>mselves.Secretaries Report:The minutes summarizing <strong>the</strong> July meeting were <strong>of</strong>fered for approval and accepted as originally forwarded. The<strong>Chapter</strong> Secretary determined that everyone present had gotten a copy and again asked everyone to verify <strong>the</strong>ircontact information on <strong>the</strong> sign in sheet making <strong>the</strong> rounds.Treasurer’s Report:Jeff Cory gave <strong>the</strong> Treasurer’s report detailing funds added and payments made. Last month’s income included:$65 from <strong>the</strong> marble raffle, Golf Tournament revenue $1844 and <strong>FSMS</strong> dues $150. Expenditures included $<strong>11</strong>.61for guest meal at <strong>the</strong> July meeting; currently <strong>the</strong>re is a total <strong>of</strong> $6518.60 in <strong>the</strong> treasury, which includes $873committed to <strong>the</strong> marble fund raffle and $1635 in <strong>the</strong> Emergency Relief Fund; Golf tournament pr<strong>of</strong>it(disbursement to be determined) was $1770; this leaves $2240.60 usable or uncommitted. Odds for <strong>the</strong> marbleraffle this evening are 1:32. There was a motion and second to accept <strong>the</strong> Treasurer’s report as presented.Motion approved.Old Business:The <strong>FSMS</strong> Conference was raised and a review <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> business to be conducted <strong>the</strong>re <strong>of</strong>fered. Specifically, <strong>the</strong>issue <strong>of</strong> annual donations was raised, however this was deferred to new business. It was again announced that<strong>the</strong> <strong>Chapter</strong> BBQ Team will represent <strong>the</strong> <strong>Chapter</strong> at <strong>the</strong> Annual Conference, going down Wednesday, <strong>August</strong>19 th for <strong>the</strong> cook-<strong>of</strong>f. Those present were urged to support <strong>the</strong> Conference and <strong>the</strong> Team by attending!Larry brought up <strong>Chapter</strong> Officers and Directors nominations from <strong>the</strong> previous meeting. He pointed out thatAnthony Sanzone was <strong>the</strong> new in-coming <strong>Chapter</strong> President and identified that Will Hart again preferred not to beconsidered for <strong>the</strong> Vice President position. Nominated last month for consideration for <strong>Chapter</strong> VicePresident/President Elect <strong>the</strong>n were: Lance Knutsen, and Robbie Carter. By a show <strong>of</strong> hands, Robbie Carterreceived <strong>the</strong> VP position. Ray Drimmel, Louis Reinoso and Kevin Gardner were confirmed as <strong>Chapter</strong> Directors. Itwas anticipated <strong>the</strong> swearing in <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficers would occur at <strong>the</strong> September meeting.New Business:It was identified that during <strong>the</strong> <strong>August</strong> 18-23 <strong>FSMS</strong> Annual Conference several things usually occurred that <strong>the</strong><strong>Chapter</strong> needed to be aware <strong>of</strong>, <strong>the</strong> cook-<strong>of</strong>f, already discussed, being one, but that Larry wanted to expand onthat topic briefly. He was again asking for a stipend to help pay for things like food, gas, and wood for <strong>the</strong> grill. Amotion was made and seconded and unanimously agreed to, to provide <strong>the</strong> BBQ team $250, and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Chapter</strong>Treasurer <strong>of</strong>fered to write <strong>the</strong> check before <strong>the</strong> meeting broke up. It was pointed out that <strong>the</strong> Friday Businessmeeting at <strong>the</strong> conference was open to everyone, whe<strong>the</strong>r registered or not and that <strong>the</strong>re was aPresident/President Elect meeting that Larry and Anthony should attend if possible. The <strong>Chapter</strong> Treasurer raised<strong>the</strong> fact that <strong>the</strong> <strong>Chapter</strong>s normally made donations to <strong>the</strong> organization during <strong>the</strong> conference, which initiated abrief discussion <strong>of</strong> amounts involved and toward which purposes. Last year <strong>the</strong> <strong>Chapter</strong> provided donationstotaling $1500, with $500 each to <strong>the</strong> PAC and to <strong>the</strong> two scholarship funds supported. After a lengthy discussionand review <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Chapter</strong> finances a motion was made and seconded to donate $500 again to <strong>the</strong> PAC but toonly donate $250 each to <strong>the</strong> two scholarship funds. A voice vote passed <strong>the</strong> motion with one dissenting vote.Al Hill, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Volusia</strong> <strong>County</strong> GIS Manager volunteered <strong>the</strong> fact that <strong>the</strong> <strong>County</strong> had just received new FDOT 2009aerial photography and that it would be available shortly for download and distribution, but that he had anadvance copy available for <strong>the</strong> raffle this evening; fur<strong>the</strong>r he pointed out that <strong>the</strong> preliminary meeting to initiate are-engineering <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> counties flood maps had been held <strong>the</strong> previous week with anticipated initial delivery from<strong>the</strong> contractor late fourth quarter 2010.There was brief discussion about scheduling a combined meeting with <strong>the</strong> Central Florida <strong>Chapter</strong>, <strong>the</strong>re wasinterest but fur<strong>the</strong>r discussion was warranted at future <strong>Chapter</strong> meetings.Raffle:Larry Efird Jr. won <strong>the</strong> DVD <strong>of</strong> new aerials; Reggie Priest won <strong>the</strong> chance to draw for <strong>the</strong> marble with <strong>the</strong> chance


to win $873 plus ½ <strong>the</strong> evenings raffle ticket sales.
