FREE EVERY MONTH ‘The Scrumpy’ ISSUE 6 VOL 7IS YOUR BUSINESS SUFFERING THE RECESSION BLUES?GET ROCKIN WITH THE SCRUMPY 07919 315 433SEPTEMBER’S ROCK ‘n’ ROLLwith Boppin DarrinAs we Rock ‘n’ Roll into September, kidsback to school/college with the darkernights coming in quick, it’s the month whenthese cool cats were born - Conway Twitty1st 1933, Buddy Holly 7th 1936, PatsyCline 8th 1932, the killer himself Jerry LeeLewis 29th 1935 and Frankie Lymon 30th1942.Charles Hardin Holly, better known as BuddyHolly was born in Labbock, Texas, theforth of four children, the family was verymusical and Buddy took up music veryearly in life, his parents nickname forCharles was “Buddy”, so obviously “BuddyHolly’s” name was spoken years before hebecame famous. In his teens he was struckwith by rhythm n blues beat and took akeen interest, even though in 1951 he wassinging country with Bob Montgomery andwere know as “Buddy and Bob” doing regularbars, colleges, skating rinks etc... Andbecame Lubbock’s top performers....By ‘54 Buddy had put some rhythm andblues touch to the country tracks, radiostations calling it “Western Bop” they evenhad their own half hour show each Sundayon Chicago’s WLS. Buddy was now startingto write his own material “Heartbeat”and “Loves Made a Fool of You” it was notan easy road for Buddy and Bob, manyproblems hit them along the way. Buddywas now changing his sound, to what weknow as Rock ‘n’ Roll and soon he had theattention of the Decca recording company.Meeting up with Norman Petty in 1956 andusing his own studio, they sent off a fewrecordings to Decca which they liked, adeal was signed and Buddy Holly and theCrickets was born, hitting the wax was“That I’ll Be The Day” then the recording“Cindy Loo” which was changed to “PeggySue” which became million dollar sellers.Buddy Holly was one of the youngest singer/ song writers / producer / arranger of histime and produced many classic hits in hisSEPTEMBER ‘10 17short lived career, RAVE ON BUDDYHOLLY.Hey why not check out a brand new Rockn Roll club at The Westfield Inn, nr HighbridgeTA9 4RD opposite Riches CiderFarm which will be holding monthly RecordHops with live bands now and again, kickingoff on Friday 17th from 7.30 till 11pmit’s a Record Hop with me Boppin Darrinand Jimmy Dean entry £2.50 with under16’s free as long as they are well behaved,plenty of parking so if you wanted to bringyour hot rod or whatever classic car youdrive, feel free, what a great sight thatwould be to have lots of amazing cars inthe car park.
