The church of St.Catherine, erected by Thomas Hibbert esq. in 1840, andformerly the domestic chapel of Birtles Hall, was consecratedas the parish church on the formation of the :parish in 1890, and is a structure of brick in tbe Jacobeanstyle, consisting of chancel, nave and an octagonal western .tower -with pinnacles, containing 8 beUs, presented by thethree surviving sisters of Col. Hugh Bobert Hibbert ID.L., J.P. late patron, to whose memory there is a brassin the church: another brass records the erection of the 'church, its endowment by Letitia Hamilton Hibbert and |its consecration by the Bishop of Chester: the interior 'contains some fine stained -windows of Flemish glassand the pulpit, reading-desk and westem gaUery are ofold carved oak: in 1909 a new organ was provided at acost of ;^30o': there are sittings for 120 persons.
