There is a station inthe vUlage on the Wirral railway, opened in March, 1896.The church r>f St. Oswald, rebuilt, with the exception oftho tower, in 1856, is a building of stone in the Gothicstyle, consisting of chancel, added in 1882, nave of fivebays, aisles, south porch and an embattled western towerwith pinnacles containing 6 heUs: there are some curiousemblems and shields over the west door shewing theconnection of the place with the Stanley family, oneexhibiting the arms of the Isle of Man : there is a memorialwindow to the late Rev. C. A. Graham B.A. thirty yearsperpetual curate, d. 1881, besides several others, anda fine reredos of glass mosaic by Salviati, depicting" The Last Supper" after Leonardo da Vinci; themarble mosaic ohancel floor and the chancel fittingswere presented by H. S. Bower esq. in memory of hiswife, d. 1886 : in the waU of the north aisle is-a memorialyvreath inscribed " A mark of affection from Victoria R.and I. to Percy E. L. Gust, page ot honour, obiit. 24 Nov.1884:" there are 330 sittings.
