PREPARATORY SCHOOL NEWSWednesday 7 November 2012 Term 4 - Week 5 Email: chancock@kws.nsw.edu.auDear ParentsIt has been a very busy last few days in the Preparatory School with Grandparents Day and Open Day lastweek and our Kindergarten Orientation yesterday. With 230 grandparents and friends in attendance the students were bubbling with excitement andperformed an outstanding concert for a most appreciative audience. The students were involved in choirs, bands, strings, verse speaking, solos, quartets and quintets. The students then led their grandparents to thePrep School where they proudly showed their work and their classrooms. The staff and students deserve the highest praise for their efforts in making the concert and their rooms soterrific.A wintry chill kept students and parents inside the rooms for the early part of Open Day but they weretreated to some wonderful displays and it gave parents a chance to look closely at the excellent workoccurring in our school. Around the grounds our Notables and musicians entertained all those whoattended. Thank you to all those students who performed on Saturday.Yesterday we welcomed 34 students who will be entering Kindergarten in 2013. This is our highest intakeand makes for a very exciting start to next year.Next year, Miss Richelle Dwyer will be returning after travelling this year and Mrs Jodie Allen will remainwith us due to the retirement of Mrs Jenny Emerson which was mentioned in last week’s bulletin.Enjoy your week.Rob McLeanHead of the Preparatory SchoolMERIT AWARDS:KK: Sarah Choi, Max Munro, Caleb Bashara(2), Abby Hunt(3), Jet Lin, Andrew May, Lucia Varian, OlliePerkins(2), Sara Gerber, Lolli-Rose Pasquali, Alice Waddell, Campbell Miller, Camilla Crossing. While it has beentraditionally called the “Elective Music Concert”, it really is for any student in the school to play with theirband, sing in a group or put together a musical item of some description. The idea of this concert is toallow students to get together in groups and have lots of fun performing music. As such, this is not a venuefor solo performance. The sign-up sheet is in the Music Centre foyer and we encourage students from allover the school to perform.Last Friday evening, our Music Festival was held here at school in our DPA. Thirteen secondary schoolensembles performed to a very high standard with some featuring soloists. Joshua Cheney sang a beautifulsolo with Chamber Choir, Isabella Gaudiosi performed her debut solo with Senior Saxophone Ensemble,Sam Brand, Daniel Moxey and Logan Birchall rocked it out with solos in Stage Band and Cecelia Carter wasa star attraction as clarinet soloist with our KWS Orchestra performing the Weber Clarinet Concerto.Cecelia wore a gorgeous, red dress, which flowed in the breeze coming from the side doors as she played.Thank you so very much to Mrs Young for organising the Cadet display for the opening of the Festival andthank you also to the Friends of Music who provided refreshments at interval and worked on fundraisingfor our future purchase of tubular bells and a new PA system. My biggest thank you must go to thewonderful Music Staff. They have all worked so hard with their ensembles and are so dedicated toachieving the highest standard possible, always with a big smile on their faces. I am privileged to work withsuch a fantastic staff.
