Thisestablished that over 80% of visually impaired peopleare able to discern colour differences. So using colourcontrast can make <strong>the</strong>ir movement much easier.Approved Document M and BS8300: 2001 advise thatany colours used to differentiate surfaces should vary in<strong>the</strong>ir light reflectance value (LRV) by at least 30 points.WallsThe largest critical surfaces, walls need to be clearlydistinguishable to give visually impaired peoplegreater security.Doors0 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 90 99LRV values range from darkest 0 to 99 maximum possible lightThe whole door and architrave should contrast with<strong>the</strong> surrounding surfaces.
