BU ATHLETIC HALL OF FAMEINDUCTSRICH KOZICKI and TRACY PRICEThehey become 12th and 13th Swimmers To Be InductedRich Kozicki ‘76 and Tracy Price ‘92 have been selectedfor induction into the Bloomsburg University AthleticHall of Fame on October 21, 2011. They become the12th and 13th swimmers to be inducted into an elite groupof BU athletes.Tracy Price Splain will join a list of great women swimmersthat include: Kim Youndt Evans ‘90, Kelly KnausKlamut ‘86, Gwen Cressman Petersohn ‘85, CathySheridan ‘84, Linda Smith ‘81, Beth Roeder-Zimmerman ‘85 and Stephanie Humphries Campbell‘95. Tracy swam for Coach Dave Rider and was an AllAmerican all four years. She won 9 PSAC Championships,including 3 each in 100 & 200 fly, and was namedPSAC Swimmer of the Year in 1989. Tracy ended hercareer as the 1992 NCAA DII runner-up in both the 100and 200 fly. Tracy is currently on the BU All Time Top Tenlist in five events: 100 Fly (2nd), 200 Fly (5th), 200 IM(7th) and 400 IM (7th).Rich Kozicki becomes the 5th male swimmer in the Hallof Fame, joining Dave Gibas ‘73, Stu Marvin ‘78,Wayne Richards ’79 and Keith Torok ‘79. He swamfor Eli McLaughlin and defined distance swimming at whatwas then Bloomsburg State College. He was a 4-TimePSAC Champion in the 500 (twice) and 400 Freestyle Relay(twice), setting three confernence records along theway. He was the PSAC runner up in the 1000 in 1973 and1974. Rich gained All American honors in 1975 as part ofthe 400 free relay at Cleveland State. Apioneer in women’s intercollegiate athletics, Mary becameone of the first female athletic directors in the countryresponsible for both the men’s and women’s athleticsprogram.Prior to becoming the head of the athletic department inJune 1988, Mary was an assistant professor in BU’sexercise science department and served as associatedirector of athletics for a year and a half. She initiatedand served as head coach of the women’s swimming anddiving program for 14 seasons, posting an overall recordof 88-28. She also led the men’s program for one seasonin 1985-1986. “Mrs. G” coached 44 All-Americans andproduced the first national champion in the program’shistory when Gwen Cressman Petershon took the 200 IMtitle in 1985. She then coached Joan Wojtowicz to threeindividual national titles in 1986 when she won the 200,500, and 1650. When asked about her fondest memory,she points to the year the BU women swept all the relaysat NCAA’s.Bloomsburg University’s reputation for outstanding studentathletes has grown even stronger under Mary Gardner’sleadership,” said BU President David Soltz. “There is nostronger advocate for Division II athletics than MaryGardner”, he said. Under her direction, the athleticdepartment won the Dixon Trophy in 1996 and 1997,signifying the top all-around athletic program in the PSAC.Mary leaves a tremendous legacy and an athleticdepartment in a great position to challenge for the topspot once again.Throughout her career, Mary served on numerous NCAAcommitteees, including: the Division II ManagementCouncil, the NCAA Committee on Women’s <strong>Athletics</strong>, andthe NCAA Swimming and Diving Committee. She chairedthe Division II Membership Committee and was a mentorwith the NCAA Fellows Leadership Program. She alsoserved on the Amateurism Project Team, Football IssuesProject Team, Legislation Committee, and Student-AthleteReinstatement Committee.The Hatboro, PA, native and former Hatter’s swimmerearned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at EastStroudsburg University, where she was the school’s firstthree-time national champion in swimming and a varsityletter winner in both field hockey and swimming. She is amember of both the Hatboro-Horsham High School andEast Stroudsburg University Halls of Fame.
