Market et Street Mile<strong>Husky</strong> Swimmers on Terra FirmaFloridaTraining 2011BU Swimming Invades South FloridaTo kick off the 2010-2011 season, the entire team(including coaches....ugh) entered the Market Street Mile,a road race sponsored by the BU Cross Country Team. Itwas a 1-Mile run down Market Street from the TownFountain to the Town Park. Of the 150 runners that tookpart, 54 of them were BU swimmers! Dressed all in teamshirts, we made an impressive showing as we streameddown Market Street. Leading the way for the women wasAshley Bauer ‘13 finshing second overall in a judgesdecision. For the men it was senior John King ‘11, alsofinishing second overall, only losing to the top BU crosscountry runner from 2010.This year’s Florida training trip was an HUGE success. Ofcourse the weather had a lot to do with it, but the timespent training was awesome. We kicked off every morningwith wake-up run down A-1-A or the beach. The firstpractice was 8-10, followed by some significant beachtime. Afternoons saw practice from 2-4, followed by :45minutes of dryland in the park. Dinner was served at thepool each night, highlighted by an award cermony foroutstanding efforts and zaniness that may have takenplace throughout each day.This year 34 members entered the Anuual ISHOF OceanMile Swim on a gorgeous sunny moring with a flat, clearocean. Winners included John King ‘11 - College SeniorDivision, and Erik Stefferud ‘12 - College Junior Division.For the women is was Emily Stiles ‘12 taking 3rd in theCollege Senior Division and Miranda Steel ‘12 taking4th in the College Junior Division.A total of 18 team members volunteered to do CoachErin’s 100 x 100 Long Course Challenge set. This was thesecond year of the challenge that saw only 9 do it in thecold weather of 2010.Before the race at Town FountainJuniors Sarah Grawe ‘12 and Erik Stefferud ‘12 werecrowned the King and Queen of Florida for their awesomeefforts over the 10-day training trip.SCHOLAR ATHLETESTwenty four members of the Bloomsburg Swimming teamwere honored at the 22nd Annual BU Scholar-AthleteLuncheon in February. The University recognizes anyathlete who attains a 3.25 GPA to celebrate theircommittment to both academics and athletics. Theseladies define the term “leading by example” as seen bythe the 8 NCAA B cuts they achieved this past season.For the men it will be Tom Hayes ‘12, Erik Stefferud‘12 and Zach Wilson ‘12.
