Alternative Hydrapave
Systems
There are two main types of systems.
Infiltration Systems are intended for applications
where the stormwater is to be allowed to infiltrate
back into the water table.
Tanked Systems are intended for applications where
the stormwater is to be collected for re-use or for
controlled release.
Typical Infiltration System
This system is underlaid with a filter
fabric layer and is suitable for use
where water it is proposed to infiltrate
directly into a suitable sub-grade.
Direct infiltration rates of up to
800mm per hour can be achieved
in these systems even after many
years of service (depending on
suitable native sub-grade).
The specification of the filter fabric
may vary according to the application,
end-use or site. Refer to your project
engineer for specification.
Typical Tanked System
This system is underlaid by an
impermeable plastic membrane
and is suitable for use where it
is proposed to detain stormwater
before releasing it in a controlled
manner, or where it is proposed to
harvest the water for re-use.
The type of membrane used and
the method of sealing will depend
upon the excavated surface. In some
circumstances the membrane will
require sand bedding or geotextile
protection from puncturing
and specialist advice should be
obtained.
The impermeable membrane prevents
water from entering the sub-grade,
and preserves sub-grade structural
integrity.
