P39 INFLUENCE OF THE TYPE OF SURFACTANT ONMORPHOLOGICAL NANOSTRUCTURE OF FIBROUSCELLULOSE/POLYPYRROLE COMPOSITESM. M. Abdi*, N.A. Abu Bakar, Z. Conducting Polypyrrole (PPy) wassynthesized via chemical polymerization method by using different concentration ofPyrroleusing Ammonium persulfate(NH 4 ) 2 S 2 O 8 which act as oxidant . Themorphologies of resulting composite greatly depends on the monomer concentrationand surfactant chain length. The characterization of PPy was done by FourierTransform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR), and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM).The effect of PPy on electrical properties and thermal stability of the composites wereinvestigated. Four probe conductivity measurements has exhibited that increasingamount of pyrrole increased the conductivity of the composites. Thermal GravimetricAnalysis (TGA) has showed that incorporation of PPy has improved the thermalstability of the composites. Composites prepared with different surfactant haveexhibited improvement in some thermal properties. Sphere-like Polypyrrolecomposite structures are obtained if the short chain cationic surfactantoctyltrimethylammonium bromide (OTAB) is used. However, when the long chaincationic surfactant dodeyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) orcetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)is used, ribbon-like or wire-likepolypyrrole is obtained. If anionic surfactant such as Sodium Dodecyl BenzeneSulfonate(SDBS) is used, no characteristic nanostructures of Polypyrrole wereobserved.54 |16 th Industrial Chemistry Seminar: Chemistry- A Passport to a Brighter Future
