for GodSo LovedFor God so loved theworld, that He gaveHis only begottenSon, that whoeverbelieves in Himshould not perish, buthave everlasting life(John 3:16).by Lindsay RobertsHave you ever thought aboutwhy it is so important toGod that people shouldnot perish? In his muchlovedBible commentary, OralRoberts talks about the fact that Godhad lost His children when they fell tosin and they had to leave the Gardenof Eden. God’s masterpiece—Hiscreation, His children made in Hisimage—had been stolen through thetemptation of Satan (Genesis 3).According to the Bible, Godfelt a deep need to get Hischildren back, even if it meantgiving His only begotten Son asa ransom for His stolen children. So Jesus went to the cross toconquer our sin and redeem us tothe Father. But why did Jesus do this? Why did He plant this remarkableseed? He did it for a purpose!Oral explains that this gives usa beautiful picture of seed-faith.First, God had a need—to redeemHis lost creation. Second, God soloved that He gave. He made Hislove an act of giving. Oral used tosay you can give without loving,You can give withoutloving, but you can’t lovewithout giving.but you can’t love without giving.Third, God gave His best, and Hecalled it a seed. And fourth, Godgave to receive. He gave for a desiredresult—you and me!So, it’s not just what Goddid for us, but why He didit. It’s the two simple words,“so loved.” Two words—sevenletters—but it’s a powerhouseof meaning to me. God’s loveis everlasting, all encompassing, totally unconditional, and almostunexplainable. It knows no end andhas no limits. His love is so unusualthat it is not there to smother, butto cover…not to squeeze the lifeout of you, but to place His lifewithin you. The Bible says thatevery good and perfect gift comesfrom God (James 1:17) and thatHe knows the plans He has for you(Jeremiah 29:11). They are plansfor your good and not for evil. It’s amazing to me that whenwe truly comprehend the love ofGod, it’s almost unexplainable. It’s impossible to put into words. Iknow that, as a parent, I want thebest for my children. There arealmost no words to explain my lovefor them. How much more mustGod truly love us? And while Satanwants to keep us away from Godand His love, I believe that whenwe really know that divine kind oflove, it’s like a magnet that draws usand keeps us close to Jesus.Father God, we are thankfultoday that You loved us so muchthat You gave Your very best—Your only begotten Son. ThankYou for showing us opportunitiesto be a blessing to people, and toshow them Your love. Teach ushow to sow seeds for a desiredresult, according to Your Word, and then expect a miracle. In Jesus’ name, amen. ?What’s sogood aboutGOODFRIDAYBy Richard RobertsAt the end of every work What we call Good Friday lookedweek, you might hear like a terrible day for Jesus and Hissomeone say, “Thank God, disciples. It was a day when theit’s Friday!” Some people air turned cold and the sky turnedeven start out on Monday thinking, black at noonday. It was a day when“If I can just make it to Friday…” hopes for the future were dashed toBut there’s one Friday that’s better the ground. It looked like the day tothan all the rest. It’s the Friday end all days!before resurrection Sunday…and it’s In Jesus’ time of greatest need, come to be known as Good Friday. His disciples ran away and desertedHim, afraid to even acknowledgeIT DIDN’T LOOK VERY GOOD! knowing who He was. So, what’sGood Friday was the day when so good about Good Friday? The factJesus’ hands and feet were nailed to that Jesus went to the cross in our place.a cross. It’s the day when our Lord The one who knew no sin becamewas beaten beyond recognition, sin for us so that, through the powerand had a spear thrust into His of His resurrection, we could beside. It’s the day when Jesus died set free from sin’s evil power (2on a cross.Corinthians 5:21). He took thestripes on His back…so that wecould be healed from sickness anddisease (1 Peter 2:24). Accordingto 1 John 3:8, For this purpose theSon of God was manifested, thatHe might destroy the works of thedevil. When you understand thepurpose for Jesus’ dying on thecross, there’s plenty that’s good aboutGood Friday!SUNDAY WAS ON ITS WAY!The cross was a terrible, agonizingexperience for the Lord. But Jesusknew that if He didn’t go to thecross, there would be no salvationfor all mankind. There would beno healing for you and me. Therewould be no miracles. There wouldbe no resurrection. The miraculouspower of the cross would never takeplace.Jesus endured the cross for areason—because of the joy that wasset before Him, Hebrews 12:2 tellsus—because He knew ResurrectionSunday was coming! On Sunday morning, Jesus burstforth from the grave, breaking thebonds and power of death. Throughhis death and resurrection, He haddefeated satan and his power overour lives once and for all. Colossians2:15 nlt says, God disarmed the evilrulers and authorities. He shamed thempublicly by his victory over them on thecross of Christ. And because Jesus lives, wecan live also, according to John14:19.. Through the power ofHis resurrection, we can have theabundant life that He wants us tohave by receiving Him into our livesas our Lord and Savior.JESUS CAME FOR YOUIf you’ve never given your heart toJesus and asked Him to take controlof your life, I invite you to do sonow.Romans 10:9 nlt says, If you confesswith your mouth that Jesus is Lord andbelieve in your heart that God raised himfrom the dead, you will be saved.Just pray this simple prayer with me:Father God, I repent of my sins, and I ask You to forgive me. Comeinto my heart and be my Lord andSavior. I give You my life, and Iask You to make it into somethingmiraculous.Thank You that Your Son, JesusChrist, went to the cross for me,and thank You for sending the HolySpirit to dwell inside me. And mostof all, thank You for saving me andgiving me eternal life with You. InJesus’ name, amen.If you prayed that prayer fromyour heart, you are now a newcreation in Christ. What this meansis that anyone who becomes a Christianbecomes a new person. They are notthe same anymore. A new life in Christhas begun! (2 Corinthians 5:17 nlt)YOU are what’s so goodabout Good Friday! Y12 A P R I L / M AY / J U N E 2 0 1 3 W W W. M A K E YO U R D AY C O U N T. C O M 13

We hear lots of big words floating around these days that have tospiritualBUZZwordsdo with Christianity. But what do they really mean? Howcan we apply these concepts to our lives in 2013?Here are a few words that sound familiar, butwhen studied, they reveal a simplemessage of the saving, healing, and delivering work of Jesus.atonementThe righting of a wrong. The forgiving orpardoning of sin through the death of JesusChrist on the cross, which made possible thereconciliation between God and His creation. The saving work that God did through Christto bring the people of the world back intofellowship and right relationship with Himself. Now that we are set right with God by meansof this sacrificial death, the consummate bloodsacrifice, there is no longer a question of beingat odds with God in any way. If, when we wereat our worst, we were put on friendly termswith God by the sacrificial death of his Son,now that we’re at our best, just think of howour lives will expand and deepen by means ofhis resurrection life! (Romans 5:9–10 Message)resurrectionThe concept of a living being coming back tolife after death. The Christian belief that JesusChrist returned to life on the Sunday followingthe Friday on which He was put to death onthe cross. It is the central principle of theChristian faith.Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and thelife. Anyone who believes in me will live, evenafter dying.” (John 11:25 NLT)sacrificeThe offering of food, objects, or the lives ofanimals to a higher purpose or to God. A selflessgood deed done for another that may cause ashort-term loss in return for a greater gain. For Christ didn’t enter the earthly version ofthe Holy Place; he entered the Place Itself, and offered himself to God as the sacrifice forour sins. He doesn’t do this every year as thehigh priests did under the old plan with bloodthat was not their own; if that had been thecase, he would have to sacrifice himselfrepeatedly throughout the course of history. But instead he sacrificed himself once andfor all, summing up all the other sacrifices inthis sacrifice of himself, the final solution ofsin (Hebrew 9:24–26 Message).
