National Informatics Centre Project Implementation Guidelines – AGMARKNETFOREWORD(February, 2001)National Informatics Centre (NIC) has taken many initiatives todesign and develop “informatics for sustainable agriculturaldevelopment”, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, since the National Conference on Informatics for SustainableAgricultural Development (ISDA-95), held in May, 1995. TheInformation Technology Plan (1998) of National InformaticsCentre submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture envisaged“Agricultural Informatics and Communication” over NICNET(AGRISNET) for decision support on sustainable agriculturaldevelopment programmes in the country, and also “IndianAgriculture On-line”. This Plan is under different phases ofimplementation in the Ministry of Agriculture. As a step to globalise “Indian Agriculture”, it was felt necessaryto establish a state-of-the-art Agricultural Marketing InformationSystem Network (AGMARK-NET) by linking all Wholesalemarkets, located through out the country over NICNET. TheDirectorate of Marketing and Inspection (DMI), headed by theAgricultural Marketing Advisor, has formulated a Central SectorScheme in this regard and sponsored to NIC for implementationusing NICNET facilities available through out the country, as aturn-key project. NIC commits itself for successful andqualitative implementation of this project. The ProjectImplementation Guidelines will facilitate in achieving this goal.(M.K.Mandal)Agricultural Marketing AdviserDte. of Marketing & Inspection(N.Vijayaditya)Director GeneralNational Informatics CentreNIC-AGRID-AGMARKNET-PIG-001 Version 1.2 Release: 20/07/2004 Page 5 of 40
