HAWKS IN SCHOOLS<strong>Monash</strong> Mayor, Stefanie Perri joined members from Hawthorn Football Club,<strong>Monash</strong> University, Embracia and Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation for the recentlaunch <strong>of</strong> the ‘Hawks in Schools’ program at Syndal South Primary School.The program is a partnership between Hawthorn Football Club, <strong>Monash</strong> Council and <strong>Monash</strong>University to promote healthy eating and physical activity messages to grade 3 students in the<strong>Monash</strong> region.<strong>Monash</strong> Council provided content for the workbook which includes healthy snack and sandwichideas to encourage students to bring the right things to school, as well as promoting theimportance <strong>of</strong> physical activity and where to go to be active in the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Monash</strong>.KEEPING MONASH ACT!VEMore than $400,000 was recentlyallocated to <strong>Monash</strong> sports clubs as part<strong>of</strong> <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>City</strong> Council’s Active ReservesFacility Development Program.The grants will allow local clubs toupgrade their facilities, includingsports lighting installations, cricket netimprovements and scoreboard upgrades,to name just a few <strong>of</strong> the projects.The grants were handed out in line withCouncil’s successful ACT!VE <strong>Monash</strong>program.These grants are on top <strong>of</strong> the manycapital works projects that are currentlyongoing, including, the $1.8 millionCentral Reserve North Pavilion, the soonto be upgraded Jack Edwards ReservePavilion, the construction <strong>of</strong> accessibleplaygrounds around <strong>Monash</strong>, theWellington Reserve Pavilion amenitiesupgrade and installation <strong>of</strong> modernand improved equipment at our threeaquatic and leisure centres.In November, Council will host itsfirst ‘ACT!VE <strong>Monash</strong> Month’ whichwill include a large number <strong>of</strong> freeactivities around the municipality.
