on your toes. Very strange, though, workingone of the “Big Gun” stations, and thenlegally “stealing” their frequency. Wouldbe nice to have more stations to work.Give it a try, I really think you’ll like it.—Army, AE5P.Eddie, W6/G0AZT Says…If anyone really wants to have somefun in a contest, may I suggest that theyseriously contemplate entering the NCJsponsored RTTY Sprints. They are heldtwice a year and unlike many RTTYcontests, the Sprint—as its name suggests—isnot a marathon but four hoursof enjoyment and tactics on 20, 40 and80 meters only. There was even some DX participationand I believe that if the sponsorsgive this contest wider publicity, therewill be more activity in future events ofthis nature. You do not have to be adyed-in-the-wool teletype contester toparticipate but you must read the rulesthoroughly and preferably have somecontesting software that supports theunique Sprint format.Up until this year, I have alwayssteered clear of what was once calledthe “Internet Sprint” and run by Barry,W2UP. I found the rules rather confusing, but once they were properly digestedand with the aid of specific software,I decided to have a go in theinaugural NCJ-sponsored version inMarch 2000.The first thing that struck my weirdsense of humor was the fact that you canwork the same station on the same band, over and over again. (Check the rules.)Another interesting occurrence is that ifyou CQ and make a contact, after therequired exchange, you must QSY immediately. To sit and watch the “vultures”grab “your” frequency and workthe station you just worked is hilariousand totally alien to normal contesting. Ithink I spent far too long watching thesetactics when I should have been trying tosteal someone else’s frequency andgetting more points.Output power is limited to low power,so even the little pistols can participatewithout fear of being blown off the bandsby the California Kilowatters. Both RTTYby WF1B and Writelog for Windows softwarepackages cover this contest andproduce all the required files for submissionto the Contest Manager, Wayne,K7WM.Please come and join us in the nextone.73 de Eddie, W6/G0AZT (ZF1RY,P40RY, TY1RY, 8R1TT, 3V8BB ’96,GU0AZT et al)Good luck on the bands and see youin the ’tests too.73, Wayne, K7WM ■34
