Acta Mineralogica-Petrographica, Abstract Series 5, Szeged, 2006ZEOLITES OF MUNELLA (ALBANIA) – A STILBITE-STELLERITE SOLID SOLUTIONBEQIRAJ (GOGA), E. 1 , MULLER, F. 2 , TOURAY, J. C. 2 & JOZJA, N. 21 Faculty of Geology and Mining, Rruga Elbasani, Tirana, AlbaniaE-mail: ea_beqiraj@yahoo.com2 Institut des Sciences de la Terre d’Orléans, Rue de la Férollerie Orléans, Cedex 2, FranceZeolites of Munella are found between the SSZ-type volcanicrocks of the Mirdita zone (Jurassic Albanian ophioliticcomplex). From the bottom to the top, the volcanic sectionconsists of basalts, basaltic andesites, dacites and rhyolites.Zeolites crop out as separated up to 2-3 m thick layers, intercalatedwith rhyolites, dacites and andesites of the uppermostpart of the volcanic sequence (SHALLO, 1994;BECCALUVA et al., 1994).Critical evaluation of other reported chemical analyses ofstilbite phase from metabasalts indicates that most compositionslie along a binary solid solution between stilbite(Ca 2 NaAl 5 Si 13 O 36 • 16H 2 O) and stellerite (Ca 2 Al 4 Si 14 O 36 •14H 2 O) (Fig.1) (FRIDRIKSSON et al., 2001).Microprobe data indicate that Munella zeolites fit theabove stilbite–stellerite solid solution series (SS), showing aCa-rich trend because of the domination of the stellerite endmember (BEQIRAJ, 2004).ReferencesBECCALUVA, L., COLTORTI, M., PREMTI, I.,SACCANI, E., SIENA, F. & ZEDA, O.
