The maximum group size will bedetermined by the number of seats available on ourmotorcoaches, domed rail cars and aircraft (Yukonjourneys). Sometimes, a journey departure will betraveling with a group of other guests, and, on someLand+Sea Journey itineraries, with a Journey Host.Sometimes, a journey will be very popular and morethan one motorcoach will be used. In these instanceswe will split the total number of guests on this journeyinto smaller groups. When this happens we will assigna letter to your journey number, forming different anddistinct motorcoaches that will travel the same itinerary.For example, when there are two tour Y2C’s, therewill be a tour Y2CA and Y2CB. When you arrive intoAlaska, all hotel and motorcoach assignments will beorganized around these splits.If you are traveling with guests on a separate booking,please make sure that your travel professional advisesHolland America Line of this information at least 50days prior to departure. We will do our best to ensurethat groups are kept together, but there may be timeswhen this is not possible.LAND+SEA JOURNEYS LUGGAGE PROGRAMAll Holland America Line Land+Sea Journeys includea convenient luggage handling service at all yourdestinations. You will have access to all of yourluggage during the cruise portion of your vacation.However access to your luggage will be limited duringthe land portion of your vacation. Please note the landjourney luggage instructions below.Upon arrival, our staff will arrange for your luggage tobe delivered to your first overnight destination. Due toairport security, you must identify and claim your ownluggage from the luggage carousel at the airport. Pleasecheck for any airline damage at this time. All airlinedamage must be claimed prior to departing from airport.Upon arrival, you will receive luggage tags andinstructions on where to deposit your luggage to ensureproper delivery. Your luggage will be delivered directlyto your room at the next overnight location.Luggage is transported separately and will beinaccessible until it arrives at your next overnightlocation.Luggage may not be available immediately upon arrivalat each location. Make sure you have your ID, essentialmedication(s), and appropriate attire and footwear forthe day’s activities with you in your hand carry tote.How to Pack for Your Land+Sea Journey: Land+SeaJourneys cover great distances and involve variousarrivals and departures. Packing light and minimizingbags needed on land will help you get the most out ofour luggage transportation services. The best way tobe comfortable and avoid hassles is to choose casual,comfortable clothing you will be able to wear all day.There are four categories of luggage.1. Hand Carry Tote/Backpack• No Holland America Line tag required, though wedo recommend attaching a personal ID tag. You’llwant this bag with you every step of the way, so besure to bring just the essentials!• Recommended items include: travel documents,photo ID, important medication, toiletries, camera,personal electronics, any valuables and any extraclothing items as personally needed.• The hand carry tote should be a size that iscomfortable to carry and able to be stowed undera seat. Soft sided tote bags or backpacks no largerthan 17”x14”x4” with a zippered enclosure arerecommended.• Wheeled carry-on cases that are used as carryonluggage on airlines are too large and are NOTsuitable as hand-carried luggage on motorcoachesand trains.2. “Join Me Tonight” luggage program• You will receive luggage tags and instructions foryour Join Me Tonight luggage either onboard priorto disembarkation or upon arrival on the land portionof your journey.• You are allowed one piece of “Join Me Tonight”luggage per person. You simply pack one bag andthen place the bag, with the appropriate luggagetags, where instructed for pickup. Our luggagehandlers will pick it up and deliver it to your roomat the next overnight location on your land tour. You will have onepiece of luggage during your Denali stay.• If you are traveling on any other Yukon+DenaliLand+Sea Journey, you will have all of yourluggage in Skagway, Whitehorse, Dawson City, andFairbanks, depending on your itinerary. However,you will only have one piece of luggage during yourDenali stay.• If you are traveling on any Denali Land+SeaJourney, you will only have one piece of luggagethroughout the land portion of your journey.*If you are traveling on a Yukon Land+Sea Journey which involves a flightbetween Dawson City and Fairbanks, the suggested luggage limit is 50-lbschecked baggage per guest and 12-lbs carry-on per guest. This is due to flightoperations, weight and balance limitations.3. “Join Me Onboard” luggage program for guestswho cruise AFTER their overland journey• If you are cruising after your land tour, you shouldpack separate bags for items you will not need onland.• These bags are perfect for the items you may needon your cruise but will not need on your land tour,such as formal wear, dress shoes, or dinner jackets.(On the land portion of the Land+Sea Journey, thedress code is always casual so there is no need forformal wear.)• All luggage is delivered to your first itinerarydestination. Upon departure from that city, any “JoinMe Onboard” tagged bag(s) will be securely storedand inaccessible until they are delivered to youronboard stateroom.4. “Join Me in Fairbanks/Anchorage” luggage programfor guests who cruise PRIOR to their overland journey• If you are cruising before your overland journey, itis recommended that you pack separate bags withitems needed for your cruise but NOT needed onland. You will be given instructions on board theship on how to appropriately tag for disembarkation.These bags will be securely stored and inaccessibleuntil they are delivered to the final destination ofyour itinerary.• You will receive the appropriate “Join Me inAnchorage” or “Join Me in Fairbanks” tags upon thestart of your Land+Sea Journey. Clear instructionswill be given regarding the placement and use ofthese tags upon your arrival.PACKING ADVICEGiven the extreme variation and fickle nature ofweather in the Far North, we recommend that you dressin layers. We suggest a waterproof outer layer and aninsulating, inner layer. Comfortable, sturdy shoes are amust. Although a dress code will be in effect for dinnerson the cruise portion of your Land+Sea Journey, casualdress is encouraged for dinners on the land portion.Important Luggage Reminders:All luggage should have a sturdy personal identificationtag that will not be lost or damaged in the course oftypical airport luggage handling.Essential medicines, travel documents, valuables andbreakables should be hand carried in your possessionat all times. Do not pack these items in your checkedluggage (which is inaccessible during transit).Firearms, explosives, fireworks, and illegal drugs areprohibited without exception.Many domestic airline carriers now impose excessbaggage fees for one or more bags and bags weighingover 50 pounds, so check with your carrier regardingweight restrictions.Holland America Line will make every effort to assistyou in safeguarding your belongings. But pleaseremember, you are responsible for your belongings atall times.
