997 SegmentsA 997 is created for each functional group (GS through GE) within the ISA through IEA that passes Level 1validation. The 997 reports on every transaction (ST through SE) within the functional group.The 997 contains multiple AK segments. These segments contain the results of the translator review of thefunctional group (GS through GE). They indicate if an <strong>837</strong> transaction is accepted or rejected, and identify anyerrors received.The AK segments are briefly described below. Refer to section B.2 of the <strong>837</strong> Version 4010A1(004010X098A1) Implementation Guide for additional information on these segments.AK1AK2AK3AK4AK5Functional Group Response HeaderThis segment starts the acknowledgment of a functional group. AK102 contains the group controlnumber from the <strong>837</strong>, GS06 of the functional group being acknowledged.Empire supports the following elements: AK101, AK102Transaction Set Response HeaderThis segment starts the acknowledgment of a single <strong>837</strong> transaction (ST through SE). AK202 containsthe transaction set control number from the <strong>837</strong> ST02. There will be one AK2 for each transaction set(ST through SE) within the functional group (GS through GE) in the claim transmission.Empire supports the following elements: AK201, AK202Data Segment NoteThis segment is used to report errors in a data segment and identify the location of the data segment.This segment is situational and is present in the 997 only when there are errors on a segment within the<strong>837</strong>. It contains the segment ID in error and an error code. The error codes are documented in sectionB.2 of the <strong>837</strong> Version 4010A1 (004010X098A1) Implementation Guide. This segment may occurmultiple times.Empire supports the following elements: AK301, AK302, AK304Note: AK303 is not populated for <strong>837</strong> transactions per note in implementation guide.Data Element NoteThis segment is situational and is present in the 997 only when there are errors in a data element withinthe <strong>837</strong>. It contains the element position and an error code. This segment is dependent on the AK3segment to define the segment that contains the data element error. The error codes are documented insection B.2 of the <strong>837</strong> Version 4010A1 (004010X098A1) Implementation Guide. This segment mayoccur multiple times.Empire supports the following elements: AK401, AK403, AK404Transaction Set Response TrailerThis segment ends the acknowledgment of a single <strong>837</strong> transaction (ST through SE). It contains theacknowledgment code that indicates if the transaction set was Accepted or Rejected.
