The Journal <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>2012</strong>24Events & ProgramsBoard Members and volunteerscame together with staff on June 21 tocelebrate another successful year for the<strong>Camarillo</strong> <strong>Chamber</strong> and its members.Among the pomp and circumstance <strong>of</strong>installing a new Board and recognizingretiring Board members, awards werepresented to outstanding volunteers.“We rely on our volunteers asmuch as any other not-for-pr<strong>of</strong>it organization,”said CEO Jennifer Wells.“Without our dedicated ambassadors,committeemembers,and board,we wouldsimply notbe able t<strong>of</strong>ulfill ourmission.”Awards presentedinclude the YoungPr<strong>of</strong>essionals GroupLeader <strong>of</strong> the Yearaward which wentto YPG Past-Chair Stephanie Reichmanfrom Airworks Solutions (picturedabove left), Ambassador <strong>of</strong> the Yearwhich was awarded to Gloria Mielefrom Optimal Development Coaching(pictured above right), and the KenCunningham Award which is given tothe Board member who goes out <strong>of</strong> his/her way to help the <strong>Chamber</strong> meet itsmission.“I was thrilled to surprise our outgoingChairman, Bob Taylor (right),with the Ken Cunningham Award,” said<strong>Chamber</strong> honors membersat the Annual MeetingWells. “Bob stepped in as Chair to fill apressing need last September and he hasbeen there every step <strong>of</strong> the way since;with advice, support and a winning attitude,Bob has been invaluable to the<strong>Chamber</strong>.”Taylor’s hands-on approach has apositive impact on everyone he comesin contact with, as proven by the wealth<strong>of</strong> certificates and plaques he received,as well as the kind and obviously heartfeltwords they were presented with byall <strong>of</strong> our local elected <strong>of</strong>ficials and theirrepresentatives. He has a long history<strong>of</strong> helping the community, volunteeringhis time, talent and treasures to suchorganizations as Pleasant Valley EducationFoundation, <strong>Camarillo</strong> Rotary, <strong>Camarillo</strong>Optimist Club and <strong>of</strong> course, the<strong>Camarillo</strong> <strong>Chamber</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Commerce</strong>.Another group <strong>of</strong> supporters honoredat the luncheon were the Chairman’sCircle members. Chairman’sCircle consists <strong>of</strong> businesses that pledgea higher monetary support level thantheir regular dues level. Events & ProgramsLocal businesses show <strong>of</strong>f their Rock Starstyle at the Hampton Inn & Suites Expo<strong>Chamber</strong> member businesses wererocking-and-rolling at the Business RockStars Table Top Expo held May 31 at theHampton Inn & Suites in <strong>Camarillo</strong>. Almostall <strong>of</strong> the businesses that attendedreally got into the theme <strong>of</strong> the event,<strong>of</strong>f their goods and services to other businessesand attendees.But the expo wasn’t just about fun andgames. <strong>Chamber</strong> business expos are designedto help members make connectionswith potential clients and customers, encouragingboth businesses and residentsto shop locally to support our economy.The chamber plans on having several <strong>of</strong>these smaller table top expos each year toensure that all members have a chance toconnect witheach other andthe public. Thenext BusinessExpo will take place on September 22,<strong>2012</strong> as part <strong>of</strong> the all new Old Town MusicFest(formerly the Art & Jazz Festival).The MusicFest will be held in the fieldbehind 2220 E. Ventura Blvd adjacent tothe Studio Channel Islands Art Studios(formerly Los Primeros School) and willfeature music from the E Family featuringSheila E and 2011 American Idol semifinalistKendra Chantelle. In addition tothe concert and business expo, there willbe gourmet food trucks,wine tasting and a beergarden, and the art studioswill be open.
