Copley-Fairlawn City Schools 2007 Winter 2008 Page 6Educator of theYear NomineesDRAFTWe proudly recognize the nominees for the Educator ofthe Year award as announced by the Copley-FairlawnCity Schools PTA. Each individual was nominated by his/her respective building PTA as its outstanding educatornominee. The names of the nominees were submittedto the district-level PTA Council for consideration. Fromthese names, the PTA Council selected the 2007-2008Educator of the Year. This year, the building-level Educatorof the Year awards were presented to the following: Mr.Jesse Smith, Arrowhead Primary School; Mrs. Mary JoWorthington, Fort Island Primary School; Mrs. SusanThorkelson, Herberich Primary School; Mrs. Windy Lewis,Copley-Fairlawn Middle School; and Mrs. Vicki Smith,Copley High School.Educator of the YearMrs. Mary Jo Worthington, K-4 Art TeacherThis year, the PTA Council has bestowed the prestigious Educator of the Year honor on Mrs. Mary JoWorthington, art teacher at Fort Island Primary School.Mrs. Worthington earned a B.S. in Education (K-12) from Ashland University. Mrs. Worthington has taught atRittman Schools, Art K-6 and for the last 20 years at Fort Island Primary School, Art K-4. She is a member ofthe Cuyahoga Art Center, Akron Art Museum and Ohio Art Education Association. For the last nine years shehas been the Copley-Fairlawn City School’s Art Curriculum Development Coordinator. Mrs. Worthington is aco-chairperson as Craft Coordinator for Camp Quality, which is a week long camp for children with childhoodillnesses for the last ten years.When asked about her educational philosophy, Mrs. Worthington said, “My goal is to always teach as she wouldlike her “children” or “grandchildren” to be taught with kindness and patience. They are only children and theyjust need direction.” Mrs. Worthington resides with her husband Randall of 40 years. She has 2 children and 2grandchildren. Congratulations, Mrs. Worthington!

This year, the building-levelHelping Hands awards were presented to the following:Mrs. Leigh Ann Hradil, Arrowhead Primary School;Mrs. Sue Gigliotti, Fort Island Primary School; Mrs.Beth Hofacker, Herberich Primary School; Mrs. JodiVrabec, Copley-Fairlawn Middle School; and Mrs. NinaHanhold, Copley High School.Helping HandsAward NomineesDRAFTHelping Hands AwardMrs. Nina Hanhold, Copley High SchoolThe PTA Council has elected Mrs. Nina Hanhold as the 2007-2008 Helping Hands district-wide award recipientfor Copley-Fairlawn City Schools. Mrs. Hanhold is an excellent choice because of her extensive record ofservice and willingness to become involved in a vast variety of committees and projects.Mrs. Hanhold has served Copley-Fairlawn City Schools PTAs in a variety of leadership roles not only locallybut statewide. Mrs. Hanhold served on many PTA committees and eventually ended up being a CouncilDelegate. She has been elected Unit President, Council President, District Director for Ohio PTA, District 13Advisor, and is currently Vice President of Field Service. She has been a Parent Volunteer Coordinator andDaffodil Chair, along with being involved with the Tobacco Prevention Coalition, Turkey Trot, and Relay forLife. She has been a den mom for Scouts, a chaperone and OMEA volunteer for Music Boosters, PSR teacherat St. Hilary and served on Faith Lutheran Pre-School Board. Mrs. Hanhold is currently an InterventionSpecialist at Herberich Primary School. She resides in Fairlawn with her husband, Vincent and one of threesons. Congratulations Mrs. Hanhold!
