Memorial service for the late Dr Stephen FleetIn the 2006 issue <strong>of</strong> the <strong>College</strong> <strong>Record</strong> we recorded the passing <strong>of</strong> Dr StephenFleet, Registrary Emeritus <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> and former Master. The Fellows andmany others had said their farewells at the funeral in the Chapel on 26th May2006. Then on the morning <strong>of</strong> Saturday 7th October 2006 the Vice-Chancellor,many Heads <strong>of</strong> Houses, the <strong>Downing</strong> Fellowship, the Mayor <strong>of</strong> Cambridge and ahost <strong>of</strong> other people filled Great St Mary’s Church to remember Stephen’s life.The service was led by the Chaplain <strong>of</strong> <strong>Downing</strong>, The Reverend Keith Eyeons,assisted by The Reverend Bruce Kinsey, a former Chaplain. The Vice-Chancellorand the Master <strong>of</strong> <strong>Downing</strong> gave addresses; lessons were read by the Master <strong>of</strong>St John’s <strong>College</strong>, Stephen’s undergraduate college, and the Master <strong>of</strong> Fitzwilliam<strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> which Stephen was a Founder Fellow. The Choir comprised past andpresent members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Downing</strong> Chapel Choir and the organists and choirdirectors were current and past organ scholars. After the service a reception washeld in <strong>College</strong>.Dr Stephen Fleet.
