Public Art: Parameters & GoalsDIA’s South Terminal Redevelopment Program (STRP) will generate over $4.25 million inpermanent and temporary public art and design commissions over a three year period.Currently, the DIA Art Committee is seeking artists who are interested incorporating theirdesigns and ideas into the area of the T1 Roadway on the north side of the Public Transit Center.(Please See Attached Images)Location: The approximately 400-foot long wall is situated at the north end of the new PublicTransit Center that will be completed in 2015. The central part of the mural will be visiblefrom the commuter rail station that will also be completed in 2015 and the full span of thewall will be visible by thousands of employees and travelers arriving to the <strong>airport</strong> by bus.Materials & Media: The Art Committee is open to a mural that could be applied to the 400-foot-long wall or other two- or three-dimensional artwork or light/sound-based work.Durability & Maintenance: All public art projects in Colorado are exposed to weather,physical stresses and subject to vandalism. This artwork in particular should be fabricated ofhighly durable, low-maintenance materials. Materials must be able to withstand extremetemperature changes, easy to clean and maintain and continue to function/look good duringwinter months when the area will be wet and dirty from roadway use.Unique & Site-Specific: The selection panel seeks a unique, one-of-a-kind artwork <strong>for</strong> thiscommission that is appropriate <strong>for</strong> a transit center in one of the world’s busiest <strong>airport</strong>s.Artists must work with the operations and maintenance staff to make sure that the artworkcomplies with all <strong>airport</strong> and FAA guidelines and does not impede the activities of the <strong>airport</strong>or transit center in any way.Open Call: This project is open to all artists working in the materials & media listed above.Artists who currently live and work in the State of Colorado are encouraged to apply.BudgetThe budget <strong>for</strong> this commission is approximately $200,000 USD which will be allocated to theartists/team selected by the selection panel. This contract amount is inclusive of all costsassociated with the project including, but not limited to the artist’s design fee, other consultationfees such as structural engineering, insurance, including Colorado Workers Compensation andprofessional liability, small tools, materials, fabrication, transportation and installation, includingany building or site modification required, travel to and from the site, per diem expenses,project documentation, contingency to cover unexpected expenses and any other costs of anykind. For all work done on City property, prevailing wage requirements will be applied.
