B<strong>on</strong>al, CCF(WL), <strong>Assam</strong>The CCF(WL) made a presentati<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> the proposed <strong>Deepor</strong> <strong>Beel</strong> WildlifeSanctuary (DWLS). A summary is given below:‣ Total Number <strong>of</strong> wetlands <strong>in</strong> the State <strong>of</strong> <strong>Assam</strong> is 3513 and the <strong>to</strong>talarea covered is 101231.60 ha. which c<strong>on</strong>stitutes 1.29 per cent <strong>of</strong> the<strong>to</strong>tal geographical area <strong>of</strong> the State.‣ <strong>Deepor</strong> <strong>Beel</strong>, the river<strong>in</strong>e orig<strong>in</strong> and s<strong>to</strong>rm water s<strong>to</strong>rage bas<strong>in</strong> <strong>of</strong>Guwahati city is situated at 10 km southwest <strong>of</strong> Guwahati.‣ Its area extends 26˚03’26” <strong>to</strong> 26°09’26” N and 90˚36’39” <strong>to</strong>90˚41’25” E <strong>in</strong> the south <strong>of</strong> the mighty Brahmaputra.‣ <strong>Beel</strong> has an actual perennial water hold<strong>in</strong>g area <strong>of</strong> 10.1 sq.km and<strong>to</strong>tal area extends up o 40.1 sq.km dur<strong>in</strong>g flood. 4.1 sq.km isrecommended by Collec<strong>to</strong>r as Wildlife sanctuary for f<strong>in</strong>al Notificati<strong>on</strong>.‣ <strong>Deepor</strong> <strong>Beel</strong> is open type <strong>of</strong> lake bas<strong>in</strong> c<strong>on</strong>nected with sets <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>flowand out flow channels.15
