She will serve as President-Elect from January 1 to December 31 2009, as presidentfor two years from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2011.The CAMRT Board has also decided to use one of the tworemaining at-large positions to bring a younger perspectiveonto the Board by appointing a member who has less than10 years in the profession.Key members of the CAMRT staff, the CEO isMr Chuck Shields; Director of Education, Ms ElaineDever; the newly hired CAMRT Director of Advocacy,Communications and Events is Leacy O’Callaghan-O’Brien and the new CAMRT Director of ProfessionalPractices is Mark Given.2. The 67th CAMRT Annual General Conference willtake place in Vancouver June 4-7, 2009. Our KeynoteSpeaker will be Mr Robert George! This year there willalso be satellite symposia as part of the Conference,which are industry-sponsored sessions held outside theofficial conference program. The educational programis now on the CAMRT website. It is looking to bea truly amazing conference so I do hope you havealready sent in your registration! Planning has alreadybegun for the 2010 Conference in Quebec City, in theprovince of Quebec; 2011 in Saskatoon in the provinceof Saskatchewan; and 2012 in Toronto in the provinceof Ontario. The 2012 Conference will be held inconjunction with the ISRRT World Congress- and weare so looking forward to this great event. Update on the CAMRT Assessment of InternationallyEducated Medical Radiation TechnologistsIn Canada Internationally Educated Medical RadiationTechnologists (IEMRT’s) must be registered with aprovincial association/regulatory body of medicalradiation technologists where such registration is aprovincial requirement if they wish to work in thatjurisdiction. For instance:3.1 Candidates who wish to work in the province ofOntario must register with the provincial regulatorybody, the College of Medical Radiation Technologistsof Ontario (CMRTO) before applying for nationalcertification with the CAMRT.3.2 Candidates who wish to work in the province ofAlberta must register with the Alberta College ofMedical Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technologies(ACMDTT) before applying for national certificationwith the CAMRT.3.3 Candidates who wish to write the exam in the provinceof British Columbia must register as “non-Canadiantrained student members” with the British ColumbiaAssociation of Medical Radiation Technologists(BCAMRT) prior to applying for national certificationwith the CAMRT. However, assessment is done bythe CAMRT.3.4 The province of Quebec has its own certificationprocess. Candidates intending to reside and workin Quebec should contact the provincial regulatorybody, L’Ordre des technoloques en radiologie duQuebec (OTRQ).3.5 All other candidates must be registered through theCAMRT. CAMRT requirements are as follows:1. Currently the Language proficiency requirementsare- verification of language proficiency of eitherFrench or English, if not the first language- Internet (iBT) TOEFL with a total score of atleast 45 in the Reading, Listening and Writingsessions and a score of at least 23 in the Speakingsection.CAMRT is currently involved with a project underInstitutional Change Initiatives – Fair and EffectiveProcesses that may result in changes to the above.2. Assessment of IEMRT’s education in medicalradiation technologyVerification of successful completion of amedical radiation technology education programin Nuclear Medicine, Radiological Technology,Radiation Therapy or Magnetic ResonanceImaging is required. Candidates must submitnotarized copies of:- degrees or diploma certificate. Faxes or unnotarizedcopies are not acceptable to be sent infor validation purposes.- transcript from educational facility. If theeducational facility mails this directly to theCAMRT this is deemed acceptable.- syllabus from the completed university, collegeor hospital educational program. A photocopy orprintout of the syllabus is acceptable.The syllabus and transcript are reviewed by theCoordinator of Certification in collaboration withthe CAMRT Director of Education to ensure thereis substantial similarity to a Canadian accreditedVolume 45 – No. 1 35
